EXTREME WEATHER BPBD and BMPR Service of West Java Move Quickly to Overcome Collapsed Bridge in Sukabumi

PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - Extreme weather in the form of high intensity rain hit Sukabumi Regency, causing a number of areas to experience flooding, landslides, and the cutting off of main roads.

Head of the West Java Province Public Works and Spatial Planning Agency (BMPR) Bambang Tirtoyuliono said on Wednesday (4/12/2024), at around 05.00 WIB, due to extreme weather a bridge collapsed on the Loji - Puncak Darma road, Km Bdg 161+784.

"A bridge about 12 meters long collapsed. Meanwhile, the lane is closed while waiting for repairs which are currently being carried out," said Bambang.

He added that the impact of hydrometeorological disasters resulted in 53 landslides from November to December 4, 2024.

"As many as 51 incidents were resolved and traffic was able to function again. Meanwhile, there were two recent incidents that resulted in traffic being cut off, namely on the Simpang Loji - Puncak Darma (Ciletuh) road section, Sukabumi Regency. The broken road collapsed by about one meter. Traffic has been diverted," he added.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Sukabumi Regency BPBD, Deden Sumpena, said that the extreme weather from Tuesday (3/12) to today resulted in disasters at several points in Sukabumi Regency.

The areas affected by the flood were spread across six sub-districts, namely Ciemas Sub-district, Palabuhanratu Sub-district, Tegallega Village, Cidolog Sub-district, and Gegerbitung Sub-district.

Several other points hit by floods were Sirnamekar Village, Tegalbuleud District, and Pabuaran District.

Then the landslide disaster spread across seven sub-districts, namely in Sangrawayang Village and Loji Village, Simpenan District, Sirnaresmi Village, Cisolok District, Babakan Panjang Village, Nagrak District, and Cibaregbeg Village, Sagaranten District.

Several other points that were hit by landslides were Palabuhanratu Village, Palabuhanratu District, Hegarmamah Village, Warungkiara District, and Lengkong Village, Lengkong District.

Deden also said that the landslide incidents were spread across two sub-districts, namely Sukamaju Village, Cikembar Sub-district and Bantargadung Village, Bantargadung Sub-district.

"We have conducted evacuation at the disaster location. Sukabumi Regency BPBD is still conducting data collection and assessment," said Deden.
