PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - Bandung has once again made a mark of pride on the international stage. Khairizal Maris, a freelance photographer from Bandung, born in December 1987, won an award at the prestigious Sony World Photography Awards 2025.

Through his lens, he captured the euphoric moment of Persib Bandung supporters, aka bobotoh, who were celebrating their favorite team's victory on the streets of Bandung City. A portrait of passion, togetherness, and love for the city that never fades.

The Sony World Photography Awards is known as one of the most prestigious photography competitions in the world.

The event is open to photographers from all backgrounds, from amateurs to professionals, and this year more than 419,000 photos were submitted from around 200 countries.

In the tight competition, Khairizal's work submitted in the Street Photography category managed to steal the jury's attention.

"There's no particular reason, I just want to try again," said Khairizal to the Bandung City Public Relations Team, Thursday (24/4/2025)

"Last year in 2024 I failed, this year I tried again, thank God I was given good fortune," he said.

The photos he took were the result of his keen eye for capturing moments that he had never published before.

According to him, the authenticity and emotional power of the photo were strong reasons why the work was worthy of submission.

"The moment was interesting, when I was looking for photos I chose ones that had never been published, ones that were really fresh," he said.

When he found out he was the winner, Khairizal admitted that he couldn't believe it.

"I felt surprised, happy, I didn't expect to be the champion. Thank God," he said.

Although he did not convey a special message, Khairizal hopes that his achievements can be a new spirit for young people and the people of Bandung City.

"Just keep working, whatever your profession. Don't be afraid to try," he said.

From the vibrant streets of Bandung to global recognition, Khairizal Maris' work is proof that the creative spirit of Bandung residents can transcend global boundaries.

An inspiration that from a small lens in the hand, a big story can be born that shakes the world.
