PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi used the Milangkala Tatar Sunda cultural carnival as a momentum for monitoring and evaluation (monev) of development, especially provincial road infrastructure.
West Java Regional Secretary Herman Suryatman said that West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi directly inspected the road conditions along the Sumedang-Wado-Majalengka route, including paying attention to safety and order aspects in the roadside areas.
"The Governor's concern is provincial roads, including their borders. We found many banners nailed to trees, and we immediately took action," Herman said on Tuesday (May 5, 2026).
Furthermore, the team also discovered business activities that could potentially damage the environment. One example was a tofu processing stall operating near a tree, causing the trunk to become damaged and blackened. "There was a tofu stall whose frying pan was so close to the tree that the tree turned black. If left unchecked, it could die, even though it was a large tree like a mahogany. We immediately took action," he said.
The West Java Provincial Government also highlighted the felling of trees along the roadside in the Situ Raja area. According to Herman, they will investigate the ownership of the trees to ensure no violations have occurred.
"Judging by its location, it's on the roadside. We'll investigate whether it's private property or road property. But even if it's private property, it can't be cut down carelessly due to the risk of landslides," he said.
He emphasized that felling trees in cliff areas is extremely dangerous because it can trigger landslides, directly impacting the road. In addition to enforcement measures, the governor also inspected the retaining wall construction project in the Lemasugi area. The inspection covered construction quality, drainage systems, and potential risks around the project site.
During the inspection, a house was discovered to be situated directly on a cliff, potentially triggering a landslide. The West Java Provincial Government is currently preparing mitigation measures, including providing compensation to the homeowner.
"We will provide compensation, and the land and house will become local government assets through the BMPR Office. We've communicated with the person concerned and they're willing. Now, the formal process is underway," Herman explained.
He added that thorough inspections were conducted along the route, particularly at the points where the cliff reinforcement walls were being constructed, to ensure the quality of the work and minimize the risk of disaster. This activity is part of a series of cultural processions from Sumedang to Ciamis, which not only highlight cultural aspects but also serve as a means of directly monitoring development in the region.
The West Java Provincial Government held a Milangkala Tatar Sundanese cultural carnival "Nyuhun Buhun, Nata Nagara" which started from Sumedang Regency, Saturday (2/5/2026) as part of a series of commemorations of Tatar Sunda Day which is celebrated every May 18.
