Dedie Rachim Encourages Independent Waste Management

PORTALJABAR, BOGOR CITY - Bogor Mayor, Dedie A. Rachim inaugurated the results of the revitalization of the Integrated Waste Processing Creative Park (Takesi) Integrated Waste Processing Facility (TPST) Reduce, Reuse, Recycle (3R) Mutiara Bogor Raya (MBR) on Jalan Regional Ring Road (R3), Katulampa Village, East Bogor District, Bogor City, Saturday (26/4/2025).

The existence of Takesi TPST 3R MBR is part of the spirit of Bogor City in handling waste that is managed directly by residents, thus helping the government in solving waste problems.

"So that there is togetherness, contribution, synergy, and this is a real form of synergy, collaboration, participation, and the enthusiasm of residents to be able to handle and manage waste from their respective homes in their area," said Dedie Rachim.

Takesi TPST 3R MBR not only manages waste to reduce the volume taken to the Final Disposal Site (TPA), but is also able to produce a circular economy (green economy) and create employment.

Currently, the amount of waste in Bogor City reaches 800 tons per day. Of that amount, 20 percent of the waste can be managed by the Bogor City Government (Pemkot) or with residents.

Waste management models with the TPST 3R concept continue to be developed so that the amount of waste taken to the TPA is reduced.

"Currently, the number of TPST 3R in Bogor City is 30. This has become capital for us to develop and spread to become like this," said Dedie Rachim.

In this way, he hopes that the City of Bogor can again achieve Adipura, which is a representation of work, collaboration, synergy, and the spirit of waste management by the government, residents, and various other stakeholders.

In the future, this waste problem also needs to be discussed again, so that the City of Bogor has more modern waste management installations or technology.

Head of TPST 3R Katulampa, Bandung Sahari, explained that the waste processing process starts from sorting in each house, then transported using a truck or pick-up. After being collected, the waste is collected and separated between organic and inorganic.

"After that, organic and inorganic are weighed, reported to the agency. Furthermore, we sort the inorganic according to its economic value, while the organic we process into maggot feed and chicken feed," he said.

On an area of approximately 1,300 meters, Takesi TPST 3R MBR has several areas, including an inorganic warehouse, inorganic waste area, mixed waste area, organic waste area, compost sifting area, chicken house, chicken hatching room, BSF seed chamber, maggot house, biofloc pond, aquaponics, open area, and so on.

From this waste processing, Takesi TPST 3R MBR is able to handle waste generated from 900 families, with a total of 1.7 tons of waste per day.

Not only that, collaboration and synergy in waste management between the community, government, and other stakeholders also become a learning platform. Even the last, Takesi TPST 3R received a visit from Finland who wanted to learn about waste management.

Since 2023, this location has collaborated and cooperated with WWF.

WWF Indonesia's Plastic Smart Cities Program Coordinator, Munawir, said that WWF has designated Bogor as one of six cities in the world connected to the UN system in waste management.

"Bogor City became the center of attention in 2023, because it was present at the meeting in Paris. From there, world leaders saw that Indonesia was quite good at managing its waste, one of which was Bogor City," he said.

WWF's presence at Takesi TPST 3R MBR supports several things related to Capex (Capital Expenditure) and Opex (Operating Expenditure) activities, including transportation to increase service coverage, development institutions, mentoring, and development of a circular economy.

"The Plastic Smart Cities program is actually an international program initiated by WWF Global, where we focus our activities on cities that have the same goal of reducing waste leakage into nature," he said.

In Bogor City, WWF not only collaborates with Takesi TPST 3R MBR, but also with 9 other TPSTs.

Head of the Bogor City Environmental Service (Kadis DLH), Denni Wismanto, said that the existence of Takesi TPST 3R MBR is part of a joint effort between the government, residents, and various related agencies to handle the waste problem.

"So far, our pattern has been collecting, transporting, then taking it to the final processing site or TPA. However, since several years ago, we have started to make efforts to process household waste. We continue to develop and expand its coverage," he said.

In the future, the TPST 3R MBR concept will be developed to 30 other locations to expand coverage.

Thus, the target of reducing waste taken to the landfill from the original 20 percent can increase to 30 to 40 percent.

"God willing, we can make these improvements with a spirit of collaboration and synergy to handle waste from its source," he said.
