PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Bandung City Government through the Public Works, Construction Development, and Spatial Planning Agency developed Bandung Smart Map (BSM) Pro based on geospatial data to support more integrated and accurate spatial planning (16/4/2026).
The development of this system aims to provide access to information on regional zoning, land potential, and development planning references that can be used by the public, business actors, and investors in determining the right location for activities.
Head of Spatial Planning at the Bandung City Public Works, Construction Development, and Spatial Planning Agency, Deni Pathudin, said that BSM Pro is a development of the previous system that has been used since 2017.
"BSM Pro is designed to simplify access to spatial information, from regional zoning to land potential," said Deni Pathudin.
He explained that the system evolved from BSM, then BSM Plus, to become a more comprehensive and integrated platform to support the needs of urban spatial planning data.
BSM Pro is also used to help the public understand regional zoning, including educational zoning, and as a reference for development and investment planning.
However, data updating still faces challenges due to rapid changes in the city's physical conditions, such as the construction of new buildings and changes in building functions.
"Changes in the field often occur faster than the data validation process, so data updates must be carried out continuously," said Deni Pathudin.
In addition, data integration between agencies is still hampered by differences in data formats and coordination barriers that impact the process of integrating spatial information systems.
Another challenge is the limited digital literacy of regional level officials, which requires increased capacity in geospatial data management.
To address this issue, the Bandung City Public Works, Construction Development, and Spatial Planning Agency conducted outreach and roadshows to regional and local government agencies to strengthen data understanding and integration.
The Bandung City Government is targeting the realization of a one-city map policy that unifies all spatial data as a basis for data-based development decision-making.
The development of BSM Pro also involves academics, including the Bandung Institute of Technology, as well as community participation in updating information on field conditions.
This system is expected to strengthen spatial planning transparency, increase public participation, and support data-driven sustainable urban development.
