PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Bandung City Government (Pemkot) ensures that the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program is running safely and healthily for school children.
The Head of the Bandung City Health Office (Dinkes), Sony Adam, confirmed that since the beginning of the MBG program, the Bandung City Government has advocated for all management kitchens.
The aim is to ensure that the food processing and serving process is carried out hygienically and in accordance with health standards.
"The bottom line is that Bandung must be safe. We've been advocating for this since the MBG program was first launched. Kitchens are equipped with healthy and safe food processing methods," he said after the Bandung City MBG Program Evaluation Meeting at City Hall on Monday (September 29, 2025).
According to him, there are currently 98 MBG kitchens, with 87 operating daily. All are in the certification process but are permitted to operate due to intensive support from the Bandung City Government.
Sony explained that there are 80 Community Health Centers in Bandung City that are involved in assisting the MBG kitchen.
The Community Health Center is responsible for monitoring cleanliness, processing methods, waste management, and food serving.
"If there are any notes, we will immediately report them and ask for them to be corrected," he said.
Each day, the MBG program distributes approximately 260,000 meals to schoolchildren. Given this large number, Sony emphasizes the importance of quality control to ensure the food remains safe for consumption.
"We've been warning all managers from the start. They've been provided with training, and even before the program started, we held online meetings to provide an understanding of healthy food processing," he said.
He confirmed that, to date, no similar cases have been found in Bandung City.
"Thank God, there have been no cases of spoiled food in Bandung. Hopefully, this won't happen again," he said. (Bandung City Communications and Information Office/UPI)
