PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Transportation Agency continues to organize and maintain transportation facilities and infrastructure to support comfortable public mobility. This was discussed in the Sonata Talkshow entitled "Bandung is Getting More Comfortable: Arranging Infrastructure for Citizen Mobility" on Thursday (September 17, 2026).

In the joint broadcast by Radio Sonata and Radio PRFM, Ferlian Hady, Head of the Facilities and Infrastructure Section of the Bandung City Transportation Agency, was present. He explained the various efforts being undertaken, from bus stop development, pedestrian bridge construction and maintenance, to the management of other supporting transportation facilities.

Ferlian said that a number of bus stops in Bandung City have also been utilized to support transportation services such as Metro Jabar Trans.

"There are several bus stops used by Metro Jabar Trans, for example those on Jalan Merdeka, Jalan Muhammad Toha, Pasar Bunga, and Hotel California," he said.

Regarding JPOs, Ferlian said the need for these crossing facilities is still quite high, especially on a number of roads with quite dense public activity.

"Of the 21 existing ones, it's said they're still not enough. They can't accommodate the community's needs, especially along Jalan Soekarno-Hatta," he said.

He added that the Bandung City Transportation Agency had conducted a study to determine the need for pedestrian bridges.

"We've actually already conducted a study on pedestrian bridge needs for 2024. However, there are several points on Jalan Soekarno-Hatta that are really needed," said Ferlian.

According to Ferlian, one of the challenges in meeting the need for pedestrian bridges is financing, especially since several priority points are on national roads.

"The priority for these pedestrian bridges is on all national roads. This is also a challenge for us," he said.

To address these challenges, the Bandung City Transportation Agency is striving to create opportunities for collaboration with the private sector. "We're trying to innovate by inviting the private sector to participate in infrastructure development. Thankfully, several parties and businesses are also interested in building pedestrian bridges," said Ferlian.

One of the pedestrian bridge projects that has been realized is the Peta pedestrian bridge. Ferlian explained that the construction was carried out after coordination with the West Java Provincial Government.

"The public has been asking for this since 2020. We were only able to realize it in 2025," he said.

Not only building new facilities, maintenance of existing JPOs is also a concern.

"This year, we will be carrying out maintenance on the construction aspect, so we haven't yet focused on the aesthetics. The assessment revealed that several structures require repair," Ferlian explained.

He explained that the construction improvements don't necessarily mean the pedestrian bridge is in a dangerous condition. "It doesn't mean the pedestrian bridge is unsuitable or dangerous, no. So, the assessment results show that some areas do need repairs," he said.

In addition to JPO, the Bandung City Transportation Agency also coordinates regarding railway crossing gates.

"Starting this year, we're coordinating with the Railway Engineering Center. The Railway Engineering Center has already built three crossing gates and will temporarily lend them to us," Ferlian said.

In maintaining bus stops, the Bandung City Transportation Agency also faces the problem of vandalism and the installation of stickers without permission.

"Every maintenance activity we do in the field always results in vandalism," he said. "This vandalism is very disturbing from an aesthetic standpoint. Installing stickers also requires everyone's awareness," Ferlian continued.

Ferlian said CCTV surveillance has helped identify vandalism at several bus stops. "We've obtained several CCTV videos. We even posted a video of someone vandalizing the Merdeka bus stop," he said.

He also explained that his party was trying to fill the empty information spaces at the bus stops so that they would not be used for vandalism.

Meanwhile, in determining the locations for bus stops, the Bandung City Transportation Agency considers public movement patterns. "We're looking at the centers of activity; there's bound to be quite a lot of movement there. We'll survey the locations where bus stops are needed," Ferlian explained.

He added that this pattern includes residential areas, offices, schools and other community activity centers.

In the future, the arrangement of transportation facilities and infrastructure in the city of Bandung will not only require government support, but also collaboration from various parties and public concern in maintaining public facilities.

"If it can be repaired, then repair it," said Ferlian. These maintenance, development, oversight, and collaboration efforts are part of the effort to provide more organized transportation facilities and support the mobility of Bandung residents.
