PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Bandung City Environmental Agency (DLH) moved quickly to address the surge in waste following Persib Bandung's victory parade, which secured their third consecutive league title. Field surveys estimate the volume of waste collected reached tens of tons in a single day.

The Head of the Bandung City Environment Agency, Darto, revealed that the cleanup began early Sunday, May 24, 2026. One of the most striking findings was in the Cikapayang area, a gathering point for Bobotoh (fans of the Islamic movement).

"At around 5:30 a.m. WIB, six sacks of bottled waste were found in the Cikapayang area alone. This is an anomaly because there are quite a lot of them," said Darto at the Bandung City Hall on Sunday (May 24, 2026).

According to him, the dominant types of waste were plastic bottles and food packaging. However, officers also found other types of waste of concern, such as flares and firecracker fragments.

"We found three large sacks of flares alone in Cikapayang. Not to mention the remaining firecrackers and fireworks scattered around," he said.

Similar conditions were also found on several main roads used by the convoy, such as Jalan Ir. H. Djuanda (Dago), the Pasupati Flyover, and the Gedung Sate area leading to Sukajadi.

"The entire length of Pasupati from Gedung Sate to Sukajadi is extremely dirty. Meanwhile, the route to Pasteur is relatively cleaner," he said.

To address the situation, the Environmental Agency (DLH) deployed 69 sweepers who began work at 4:00 a.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB). The cleanup was also supported by a fleet of two garbage trucks, five pickup trucks, one truck, and one compactor truck.

However, the cleanup process wasn't always optimal. Darto explained that officers' movements were often hampered by the large crowds remaining at the site until the morning.

"When the crowds were still gathered, we had a hard time moving. Like in Cikapayang, even in the morning, many had not yet dispersed," he explained.

The Environment Agency (DLH) noted six main areas of mass accumulation contributing to the high volume of waste. These include the Pendopo area, Cikapayang, the Pasupati Flyover, Gedung Sate, the Islamic Center (Pusdai), the Graha Persib area, and Taman Radio, as well as along Jalan Dago.

Based on preliminary estimates, the volume of waste generated from a single day of convoy activities reaches approximately seven trucks. This number is likely to increase as the celebrations continue.

The Environmental Agency (DLH) is adapting its cleaning strategy to the conditions on the ground. A full cleaning effort can only be carried out once crowds begin to thin out.

"We estimate the crowd will depart around 3:00 PM WIB. Only then can the cleanup be more effective," he said.

Darto urged Bobotoh (fans) to maintain cleanliness while celebrating their favorite team's victory. He highlighted the practice of throwing and breaking bottles, which exacerbates the waste problem.

"Go ahead and celebrate your victory, but don't break the bottles. Whole bottles are already difficult to handle, let alone broken ones, as they have to be picked up one by one," he stressed.

He hopes that the euphoria of Persib's victory will be accompanied by awareness of environmental protection, ensuring Bandung remains clean and comfortable for all residents. (Bandung City Communications and Information Office/rka)
