PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Mayor of Bandung, Muhammad Farhan, invited the public to maintain a balance between physical and mental health through sports activities and the use of enjoyable public spaces.

He conveyed this while attending the Community Gymnastics Movement activity held by the Youth and Sports Agency at Badak Field, Saturday (13/6/2026).

According to him, amidst various development challenges and high pressure on the environmental carrying capacity of Bandung City, the community still needs to have space to refresh their minds and maintain physical fitness.

"After facing all these complex problems, we still need to refresh our minds and bodies. Thank God, today we can gather together, exercise, and have fun with the residents," said Farhan.

Farhan believes that citizen happiness is a crucial asset in city development. Therefore, sports, fresh air, and positive entertainment need to be part of people's daily lives.

"Bandung must be happy inside and out. With exercise, fresh air, and enjoyable music, people's well-being will improve," he said.

Farhan also emphasized the Bandung City Government's commitment to providing increasingly inclusive and comfortable public spaces for all residents. Improvements will be implemented in stages, starting with improving the quality of basic infrastructure.

The Bandung City Government is currently prioritizing road improvements to ensure smoother and more durable roads through the development of a proper drainage system. Furthermore, the construction of sidewalks that are accessible to pedestrians, people with disabilities, and cyclists is a key priority.

"We want Bandung to be civilized, welcoming to pedestrians, people with disabilities, and cyclists, so that all road users can feel comfortable," he said.

Following the completion of basic infrastructure improvements, the Bandung City Government plans to develop more attractive and inclusive city parks. Some parks will even be reorganized, including renaming them in keeping with the area's historical and toponymic significance.

Farhan stated that the development of public spaces not only aims to beautify the city but also supports public mental health. He believes that sports and social activities in open spaces play a crucial role in creating healthier citizens, both physically and psychologically.

"The Youth and Sports Agency (Dispora) is not only responsible for physical health but also mental health. Many sports activities can help people become mentally healthier," he said. (Bandung City Communications and Information Agency/rka)
