PORTALJABAR, INDRAMAYU REGENCY - West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi attended a soybean planting activity on a 210-hectare plot of land in order to support soybean self-sufficiency in 2026. The activity took place on the Land Use Rights (HGU) of PT. PG Rajawali II, Sukamulya Village, Tukdana District, Indramayu Regency, Wednesday (10/6/2026).
In his remarks, KDM, Dedi Mulyadi's nickname, hoped that planting soybeans on the 210-hectare plot of land would produce the best harvest.
"Hopefully, the soybeans will bloom, the water will flow, and the results will satisfy all parties, increasing soybean productivity," said KDM.
KDM urged farmers in West Java to abandon bad soybean planting habits, such as harvesting when the plants are still green, and to plant continuously throughout the year without a break.
"Rice planting is currently non-stop, due to the abundant rainfall. We can plant three or even four times a year, without a break. As a result, soil fertility has declined, with the pH falling below 4," said KDM.
KDM suggests that farmers carry out intercropping to maintain soil fertility levels.
"Through the Department of Agriculture, planting soybeans and peanuts (suuk in Sundanese) once a year must be done to maintain soil fertility because without it, the soil will be very difficult," he said.
Meanwhile, Hashim Sujono Djojohadikusumo, the President's Special Envoy for Climate and Energy, stated that Indonesia is a major importer of soybeans from Brazil, Argentina, and the United States. These imports must be paid for in dollars.
By targeting self-sufficiency, Indonesia will no longer rely on soybean imports. This will allow Indonesians to enjoy tofu and tempeh at lower prices.
President Prabowo has set a target of one million hectares of soybean cultivation in Indonesia to achieve self-sufficiency within the next two to three years. To achieve this target, the government will distribute superior seeds to all Indonesian farmers.
At the same location, Mulyadi, Advisor to the Bareng Bareng Sugih (BBS) Cooperative, added that the soybean planting program is a strategic step to promote food self-sufficiency and improve farmer welfare. He hopes Indramayu Regency will become one of the national food barns.
