PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - Farmers must be free to run their businesses and prosperous in enjoying the fruits of their hard work. Therefore, it is important to make serious and systematic efforts to free and prosper farmers in West Java.
This was conveyed by Member of Commission IV of the West Java Provincial DPRD, Daddy Rohanady, when contacted.
"All farmers in West Java must be independent and prosperous. To realize this, a serious and systematic approach is needed," said Daddy.
Daddy expressed optimism that the dream of improving farmers' welfare is not just a dream. Following the success of several regions in West Java that have been able to increase agricultural productivity.
"In Indramayu Regency, there is a village, namely Sukadana Village, Tukdana District, their farmers can harvest up to three times a year with an average harvest of 7.5 to 9 tons per hectare," said Daddy.
"Currently, a scientific approach to increasing farmer productivity is very important. The role of scientists is very necessary to encourage research-based agriculture," he added.
According to Daddy, to produce maximum harvest results, support from academics is needed to greatly assist farmers in utilizing modern agricultural technology and methods.
"On November 13, 2024, Marwah Daud Ibrahim from the Indonesian Muslim Intellectuals Association (ICMI) participated in the mass harvest in Jatisawit Village, Jatibarang District, Indramayu Regency. And this can be applied in other areas on a wider scale," he explained.
Daddy explained that increasing the planting index in West Java is the main focus, reaching a figure above 2 to 2.5 as achieved in Sukadana Village with three harvests a year.
"If that is realized, the farmer's exchange rate (NTP) will increase which will ultimately guarantee the welfare of farmers," concluded Ayah. (rep No)
