PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - PT PLN is ready to supply 210 Gigawatt hours (GWh) of green energy per year for the global fashion company, H&M Group. Through this collaboration in providing environmentally friendly electricity with H&M, PLN supports decarbonization steps, especially in the Indonesian industrial sector.
The signing of the memorandum of understanding on Green Energy As Services (GEAS) Dedicated Source was carried out by the Executive Vice President (EVP) Sales and Customer Service Enterprise PLN, Nayusrizal with the Regional Country Manager of China and South East Asia H&M, Jessica Wilhelmsson and witnessed by the General Manager PLN UID West Java , Susiana Mutia as a dedicated source green electricity provider for the H&M factory in the West Java region.
PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo explained that PLN is committed to mitigating the impact of climate change by providing electricity from environmentally friendly resources.
"As a company that holds leadership in the energy transition in the country, PLN appreciates H&M's steps to participate in using PLN's green energy. "This is a historical milestone in efforts to encourage a transition of energy and desire in the Indonesian fashion industry," said Darmawan.
PLN Retail and Commerce Director Edi Srimulyanti explained that the GEAS Dedicated Source which will be used by the H&M Group in 2025 is a PLN service for customers from the industrial sector who need a green electricity supply from PLN's renewable energy generators (EBT). This service is equipped with a Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) which is internationally recognized.
”As we all know, H&M and its factory partners, as our loyal customers, have an ecosystem to encourage sustainable practices, including the use of environmentally friendly electricity. "Therefore, through this signing, we are committed to providing green energy needs for H&M and its partner factories," explained Edi.
Edi added that this collaboration also showcases both parties' vision for a greener future and real commitment to sustainable development.
”Together, we will explore innovative approaches to accelerate the use of green energy in Indonesia. "So this not only provides benefits for PLN and H&M but also the wider community and the surrounding environment," said Edi.
H&M China and Southeast Asia Regional Country Manager Jessica Wilhelmsson added, H&M Group has a vision to transform towards a circular business and strongly supports the use of clean energy. They also collaborate to collaborate for the energy transition and achieve systemic change in the industrial sector.
"The government has committed to achieving net zero by 2060, many initiatives and innovations have been carried out, REC PLN is one of them. In previous work with PLN, more than 30 of our suppliers had implemented REC. "This is a great achievement that can only be achieved through close collaboration," said Jessica.
Meanwhile, Senior Manager for Energy and Sustainable Business at WRI Indonesia, Clorinda Wibowo, believes that energy transition in the industrial sector is a key strategy for reducing emissions at the national level. Because most emissions are produced by the industrial production process of goods and services.
"We appreciate PLN's concrete steps in accommodating industry needs to transition to clean energy.
