PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - A total of 386 tree seedlings of various types were planted on the land of the Bandung Locomotive Depot. The tree planting was carried out by PT KAI Daop 2 Bandung as a form of support to commemorate the World Movement for Planting 1 Million Trees Day.

KAI Main Director, Didiek Hartantyo, said that this program is aimed at creating a clean environment and preventing air pollution while supporting the government program, namely the One Million Trees Movement.

"Tree planting is one of the company's strategic programs in accordance with the United Nations regarding protecting, restoring and improving terrestrial ecosystems," said Didiek, Wednesday (10/1/2023).

Since 2021 - 2023, through the KAI Go Green Program as part of its Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) KAI has planted 94,303 trees. At the beginning of 2024, KAI started a tree planting movement, which shows that KAI is not only seeking profits through train operations, but also cares about preserving the environment through which it passes.

Various types of trees planted include trembesi, Ketapang Kencana, Tabebuya, ornamental palm, ornamental pine, longan, crystal guava, rambutan, glodokan and mango, which will also cover the entire Daop 2 Bandung area station.

The Movement to Plant One Million Trees for Indonesia continues to be socialized to all KAI personnel so that it does not stop being a symbol, but at the same time builds awareness about the environment.

Greening steps at the station are also being carried out by creating gardens in the station area which is part of improving service to customers.

With more and more green stations, customers will feel comfortable when using train services. A beautiful environment will also be soothing and beautiful from an aesthetic point of view.

Executive Vice President of Daop 2 Bandung, Takdir Santoso, said that KAI's support for the KAI Go Green program is in line with President Joko Widodo's statement at the G20 conference where Indonesia contributes to dealing with climate change and managing the environment sustainably.

"Planting trees will provide many positive values, such as making the air cleaner, reducing the impact of global warming, absorbing air pollution, as well as helping to achieve the 0 emissions target by 2060," he said.

"Hopefully this effort to support environmental preservation by planting trees can continue to be implemented. "Not only KAI, but also various parties who contribute to the environment to participate in protecting the earth," he concluded. (no/ rdp*)
