PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Bandung City Government (Pemkot) continues to accelerate various infrastructure improvements as a form of support for the reactivation plan of Husein Sastranegara Airport scheduled for September 17, 2026. A number of improvements are being made to ensure access to the airport is safer, more comfortable, and ready to serve passengers.

The repairs were carried out collaboratively by the Water Resources and Highways Agency (DSDABM), the Housing and Settlement Area Agency (DPKP), and the Bandung City Transportation Agency (Dishub) together with Angkasa Pura.

Head of the Bandung City DSDABM, Rizki Kusrulyadi, said that the support was a follow-up to the direction of the Mayor of Bandung, Muhammad Farhan, to help Angkasa Pura prepare to resume operations at Husein Sastranegara Airport.

"The Bandung City Government, through the Mayor, is providing assistance to Angkasa Pura (AP) in preparing for the reopening or reactivation of Husein Sastranegara Airport. Based on the results of the meeting with Angkasa Pura, several matters require support from the city government," Rizki said on Wednesday, July 1, 2026.

He explained that a number of projects that are the focus of the city government include improving road conditions, normalizing drainage, pruning trees, marking roads, and arranging street lighting in the area leading to the airport.

"These include improving road conditions, improving drainage, pruning trees, and also road markings and street lighting," he said.

According to Rizki, cross-agency collaboration is key to ensuring all work runs effectively and is completed on schedule. The DSDABM is responsible for road and drainage repairs, while the DPKP handles tree pruning. Road markings and traffic management are coordinated with the Transportation Agency.

"Today we have started that process," he said.

Specifically for the DSDABM, work is focused on minor road repairs, including asphalting and normalizing drainage channels that have been experiencing sedimentation. This work is on the main route to Husein Sastranegara Airport.

"Our duties at the DSDABM involve minor road repairs, asphalting, and drainage improvements. These activities have already begun and will likely be completed in a few days," Rizki explained.

He explained that the work area stretches from the Gapura Pajajaran entrance to the drop-off area and approaches the parking area at Husein Sastranegara Airport. This route is prioritized because it is the main access route for airport users.

In addition to repairing the road surface, the DSDABM is also normalizing the drainage system to restore optimal function. According to Rizki, the accumulated sediment needs to be cleared to prevent waterlogging during the rainy season.

"We're normalizing the drainage because there's been a lot of sedimentation. We're normalizing it so it can function properly again," he said.

Rizki added that, based on coordination with Angkasa Pura, the initial phase of work will focus on the main access from Jalan Pajajaran to the airport area. Work on other access points will be adjusted according to needs in subsequent phases.

Regarding work progress, he is optimistic that the road paving can be completed the same day. Afterward, the city government will continue painting and coordinate with the Transportation Agency regarding road markings, ensuring all access to Husein Sastranegara Airport is ready to support smooth operations when it is reactivated on September 17, 2026.
