PORTALJABAR, GARUT REGENCY - Endog Lewo from Garut Regency is one of 42 cultural works designated as Intangible Cultural Heritage (WBTb) by the West Java Provincial Government (Pemdaprov) in 2025.

Reporting from the West Java Public Relations Press Release, this determination was announced by the Head of the West Java Province Tourism and Culture Office, Benny Bachtiar, together with the West Java WBTb Team, Thursday (9/1/2025).

Before being designated as WBTb, a series of stages were carried out starting from the proposal of cultural works by cultural agencies in 27 regencies/cities throughout West Java, the review of cultural work proposals by a team of experts to the West Java WBTB determination session in 2025, on 18-20 December 2024.

Of the 67 verified cultural works, 42 cultural works were designated as West Java WBTb 2025, one of which is Endog Lewo from Garut Regency.

Head of the West Java Province Tourism and Culture Office, Benny Bachtiar expressed his gratitude to the WBTb Team who had worked hard to determine the intangible cultural heritage. He considered what had been done, an inseparable part of the shared responsibility in an effort to preserve traditional arts or culture in West Java.

He also hopes that districts/cities can continue to explore the cultural potential and local wisdom in their respective regions.

"Our team in the province will also work hard to be designated as a National WBTB. Hopefully, not only angklung will become a UNESCO heritage, we will also encourage others to become UNESCO heritage and this is a pride for West Java," said Benny.

Head of the Tourism and Culture Office of Garut Regency, Luna Avriantini, is grateful that Endog Lewo has been designated as a WBTb of West Java Province after passing the determination hearing.

He added, Endog Lewo is one of the traditional foods typical of Garut Regency that has existed since the 1960s. This snack is already famous outside the city of Garut Regency. The existence of Endog Lewo has a great influence on the socio-economic community, especially around the Lewo area, which is the production site of Endog Lewo, which is located in Sukaratu Village and Sukajaya Village.

"Based on this, it is certainly very reasonable if Endog Lewo, which is a cultural heritage of Garut Regency, we propose as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of West Java Province," said Luna accompanied by the Secretary of Disparbud, Mia Herlina. (Garut Diskominfo/Revo)
