PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Mayor of Bandung, Muhammad Farhan, gave an ultimatum to the cable excavation project implementers to complete the work no later than March 5, 2026.
"Everything must be ready by March 5th. It should be smooth sailing by March 6th," Farhan emphasized on Monday (March 2, 2026).
According to him, unsealed excavations cause various problems in the field, from traffic disruptions to the risk of accidents. If left unchecked, this situation has the potential to become an infrastructure crisis in the city center.
Farhan stated that he had issued a stern warning to PT Bandung Infra Investama (BII) as the party involved in the work.
For him, every excavation work must be followed by restoring road conditions according to safety and comfort standards for residents.
"If left unchecked, this could become a crisis. It's already causing all sorts of problems," he said.
Some of the excavation points are under the supervision of the West Java Provincial Government.
Therefore, the Bandung City Government will coordinate with the West Java Provincial Government and the Regional Leadership Communication Forum (Forkopimda) to ensure its resolution.
Regarding the victims due to the excavation pits, Farhan ensured that every report would be followed up seriously.
If a resident requires hospital treatment, the Bandung City Government will facilitate the financing of treatment at a hospital owned by the local government.
Meanwhile, for damaged vehicles, the city government is still conducting further calculations.
"If the vehicle is damaged, we still need to calculate the damage. Because the vehicle should actually be covered by insurance," he explained. (Bandung City Communications and Information Service/rka)
