PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Bandung City Government has set 2026 as the year to accelerate infrastructure development, with a focus on improving the public transportation system through the development of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and the rejuvenation of electric-based city transportation (angkot).

Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan stated that strengthening the infrastructure and transportation sectors is a top priority, in line with the results of performance evaluations that show that both sectors are still below the level of public satisfaction.

"This year is the year of infrastructure. We will repair almost all roads and strengthen the public transportation system," he said at Bandung City Hall on Friday (April 17, 2026).

One of the strategic steps currently being prepared is the development of BRT services with support from the central government, particularly the Ministry of Transportation. This program is expected to become the backbone of mass transportation in Bandung City.

"We have full support from the Ministry of Transportation for the BRT. This will be a more modern and integrated public transportation solution," he said.

In addition to BRT, the Bandung City Government will also gradually rejuvenate public transportation by adopting electric vehicle technology.

This transformation not only aims to improve service convenience and efficiency, but also supports emission reduction and the creation of a cleaner environment.

"We will encourage public transportation to switch to electric systems. This is part of the transformation towards environmentally friendly transportation," he said.

On the other hand, the city government will also accelerate road infrastructure improvements as part of efforts to improve connectivity and mobility for residents.

The Mayor acknowledged that there are still a number of challenges in implementing the program, but is optimistic that they can be resolved gradually.

"We realize there are many challenges, but the important thing is that the work is underway and the community can directly feel the benefits," he added.

With these various steps, the Bandung City Government hopes to improve the quality of transportation services while simultaneously encouraging regional economic growth through better connectivity.

This step is also part of a long-term commitment to realizing a modern, integrated, and sustainable transportation system in Bandung. (Bandung City Communications and Information Service/rka)
