PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Bandung City Government (Pemkot) together with the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) inaugurated the use of a rehabilitation building to address narcotics in Bandung City, Monday, (14/4/2025).

The building is located on Jalan Ciungwanara Lebak Siliwangi, Bandung City.

Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan said the presence of this facility was a positive initial step in a serious effort to overcome the narcotics problem in the Bandung City area.

"This inauguration is not merely symbolic, but marks the beginning of a collaborative commitment to address the drug problem from upstream to downstream," said Farhan.

According to Farhan, a humane approach is needed in dealing with drug victims.

“This building is not a place of punishment, but a place of healing.
"The handling must be holistic, even like the approach taken by, for example, Islamic boarding schools," he added.

Furthermore, Farhan revealed, the Bandung City Government has formed an Anti-Thug Task Force (Satgas) in several sub-districts and will expand its focus on eradicating illegal liquor and drugs. Cross-agency collaboration is the key to the success of this effort.
In addition, Farhan also highlighted the importance of prevention from an early age.

"Data shows that 13-14 percent of children are encouraged to try drugs, and about 6 percent have tried them. This means that the remaining 94 percent is the population that we must protect with education," he said.

The initial capacity of this building allows for inpatient rehabilitation services for 24 patients. However, the Bandung City Government and BNN are opening up opportunities to expand the facilities in the future.

Meanwhile, Head of Bandung City BNN, Senior Commissioner of Police Mada Roostanto explained that the types of services available include inpatient care, outpatient care, and health services for drug users who want to recover voluntarily.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Indonesian National Narcotics Agency, Police Commissioner General Martinus Hukom, said that drug users who report voluntarily will not be subject to legal proceedings.

"This is important to socialize. Don't let the public be afraid or embarrassed to report. This rehabilitation service is free, and the state protects those who want to recover," he stressed.

This rehabilitation building was built thanks to collaboration between the Ministry of Finance, Bandung City Government, BNN, and other law enforcement agencies.

The inauguration of this building is a sign that the war on drugs is not just about rules, but about saving the future generation. (Bandung City Communication and Information Service/Fau)
