PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Bandung City Government invites Gempolsari residents to sort and process waste from home through the Gempolin program.

Gempolin is a Community-Based Integrated Waste Processing, Sorting, Processing, and Utilization Movement supported by a waste management application.

Through the application, residents can record the type and estimated weight of waste, determine collection points, upload photos, and request collection.

Resident of RT 04 RW 04, Gempolsari Subdistrict, Hesti said the program helps people who are only able to sort but have not yet processed waste.

"Thank God, it's been a huge help. The local residents can only sort and process their waste. So, with Gempolin, it's been a huge help," Hesti said on August 20, 2026.

Residents then place the sorted waste at designated collection points for officers to collect.

Residents of RT 09 RW 10 Iim said that sorting education continues to be carried out because not all residents are accustomed to separating waste based on its type.

"Because not all residents sort their waste. So, gradually, the sub-district officials continue to educate the public that waste must be sorted according to type, organic and non-organic," Iim explained.

RT 08 RW 10 resident Yuliah said the application helps organize waste collection because residents can include the location, quantity, type, and photos of waste.

"It's just to regulate things, I think, to regulate how much waste has been processed, and how much volume can be processed by the Gober team from Gempolsari Village," said Yuliah.

The collected organic waste is then used in the Buruan Sae Mekarwangi RW 04 area as a material for processing plant fertilizer.

Buruan Sae Mekarwangi Chairman Deny said the processed produce supports vegetable gardens that produce mustard greens, bok choy, chilies, eggplant, and tubers.

The garden produce can be used by residents in need, while the excess harvest is sold to finance the garden's needs.

Resident of RT 01 RW 05 Heti said that the organic waste separated by residents was processed into compost to support garden productivity.

Garden produce can also be used to help address stunting and meet the food needs of the local community.

Gempolin connects waste management from home sorting, recording, transportation, processing, to reuse.

The program encourages changes in residents' habits while transforming organic waste into a source of benefits for the environment and society.
