PORTALJABAR, SUBANG REGENCY - The West Java Provincial Government is introducing a new look to the border between Subang and West Bandung Regencies. Emphasizing local cultural elements, the West Java Provincial Government has erected the Mendak Waluya Gate, which not only serves as a boundary but also offers visual appeal.
The gate combines Sundanese cultural elements with modern touches. Its unique and Instagrammable appearance makes it a popular spot for motorists to pause, rest, or take selfies to enjoy the beautiful, cool atmosphere typical of the Ciater highlands.
In addition to the Mendak Waluya Gate, the West Java Provincial Government is also upgrading infrastructure by painting red road shoulder markings along the main road in Ciater. This color not only enhances the appearance of the road but also improves safety and driver awareness, particularly on heavily trafficked tourist routes.
Furthermore, the installation of street lighting (PJU) is being carried out comprehensively to provide a sense of safety and comfort for road users, especially at night. These lights also support tourism activities, which can now proceed more optimally without visibility constraints.
To support local economic growth, the West Java Provincial Government has also established neatly arranged, traditional-style MSME stalls throughout the area. These stalls are designed with distinctive Sundanese architecture, creating a natural feel, and also serve as a platform for local businesses to market their superior products, from culinary delights to handicrafts.
West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi stated that the development of the Ciater area is part of an effort to create a clean, orderly, and distinctive image for West Java. "We want every corner of West Java to have aesthetic value, be comfortable to navigate, and provide economic benefits to the community," he said some time ago.
The Ciater area also provides rest areas for road users. Besides serving as stopovers, these rest areas are also being developed as comfortable, well-organized, and aesthetically pleasing open public spaces.
With these various improvements, the Ciater area is expected to become a model for public space planning for other tourist areas, while also strengthening West Java's image as a friendly, orderly, and competitive tourist destination. (Apun)
