PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - Dozens of members of the district and city hoax sweep team enthusiastically participated in the West Java Saber Hoax Fact Check training at the Aryaduta Hotel, Bandung City, Thursday (10/31/2024).
In addition to members of the district and city Saber Hoax team, the training was also attended by students who were interested in public relations and digital literacy, especially cyber security.
The West Java Saber Hoaks Fact Check Training is part of the 2024 Digital Literacy Festival (Viral) held by the West Java Provincial Government through the Communication and Informatics Service.
The JSH Fact Check Training was filled with competent speakers, namely Deni Yudiawan, Google Initiative Fact Check Trainer who is also a senior journalist, and JSH Chair Alfianto Yustinova.
In his presentation, Deni directly provided practical knowledge to the training participants. "I will not give a theoretical presentation, we will just practice, so as not to get bored," said Deni, greeted enthusiastically by the training participants.
In this session, participants are divided into several groups to jointly solve problems about truth, both in the form of text such as news and other written information, as well as in the form of photos and videos.
"We can use many applications available on Google, such as Google Lens, Google Maps, and others," said Deni.
Deni then presented several slides in the form of text news, photos and videos. Participants were asked to immediately check the truth.
Some have proven that the news, photos, videos fall into the category of disinformation or misinformation. "So this photo, or video is true, but the photo caption is wrong," Deni explained.
For example, a photo showing a fairly severe pile-up accident. In the photo caption, the incident was written in the Puncak Bogor area. But after checking, in fact the incident occurred in an area abroad.
"It's actually very easy to check the truth of information, especially now that there are many applications that can help with that," he said.
Meanwhile, JSH Chairperson Alfianto Yustinova said that JSH's Fact Check training is important to increase public awareness of the rapid flow of information, especially on social media, which is not necessarily true.
"This is our effort to increase public awareness, especially those who actively use social media such as students. Fact checking is easy, anyone can do it, the important thing is to have concern," said Alfianto.
