PORTALJABAR, DISTRICT. GARUT - The Garut Regency Association of Women's Organizations (GOW) held an event to commemorate the 145th RA Kartini Day and the 70th Birthday in 2024 at the Garut Regency level, taking place at the Pendopo Building, Garut Regency, Monday (22/4/2024).

Head of the Garut Population Control, Family Planning, Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (DP2KBP3A) Service, Yayan Waryana, emphasized the important role of women in shaping the nation's character. He highlighted the importance of a strong foundation and high self-confidence for women, which is the core of RA Kartini's struggle.

"This ability is also what underlies Raden Ajeng Kartini in fighting for women's rights. So that he is able to bring about changes in the order of society, especially those related to the position of women," said Yayan.

Thanks to RA Kartini's struggle, added Yayan, currently Indonesia can have great women, who are not only housewives but also participate in community life with various development and social activities.

"The large number of women is expected to be able to increase family resilience, social resilience, economic resilience, because it will be able to create jobs, provide goods and services at cheaper prices and will reduce and have an impact on reducing extreme poverty in Indonesia," he said.

However, continued Yayan, many women are still in a powerless position, which causes women to be looked down upon, social stratification for women, and women are marginalized.

"For this reason, strategic steps are needed to change the paradigm of human resource development to prioritize gender equality. Because in fact, it would be very beneficial if there was gender equality between women and men," he continued.

In the same place, Chief Executive Inten Tito revealed that this commemoration and birthday was carried out through various activities, with the theme With the Spirit of Kartini Day, We Increase the Role of Women in Work, Serving the Country, and Dignifying the Family.

There are several activities that have been carried out, added Inten, including Joint Sports and Gymnastics, Reception to Commemorate the 145th RA Kartini Day and 70th GOW Birthday, Health Education for Old Age Women, Islamic Recitation and Halal Bihalal.

Meanwhile, on this occasion, the party also delivered social assistance to 20 women, awarded the 2024 Garut Kartini Award to 10 Garut Kartini who fought selflessly to make Garut women proud in the fields of art, dance, culture and literature, health, in the field of education and literacy, female ulama figures, national level writers, and outstanding teachers.

Finally, he interpreted that Kartini Day is not only a kebaya clothing parade, but Kartini Day is a parade or parade of Indonesian women's thoughts which contains points of implementation of women's service to society and the country.
