PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The West Java Provincial Tourism and Culture Office through the West Java Regional Cultural Management UPTD held the 2026 West Java Arts Performance Creation Festival. This activity was held at the West Java Cultural Park Indoor Theater, Bandung City, from April 7 to November 24, 2026.

Representatives from 27 regencies/cities in West Java participated in the festival, highlighting the stories, history, legends, and myths of each region. Besides serving as entertainment and an educational tool, the event also aims to preserve, develop, and utilize cultural objects in West Java.

"This event is held to preserve and develop culture in West Java. We have Sundanese Priangan, Malay Betawi, and also Kacirebonan culture. To that end, we are holding this performance for 27 regencies/cities representing their respective regions. I hope children will also watch so they can learn about the very varied culture of West Java," said Iendra Sofyan, Head of the West Java Tourism and Culture Office.

"Our efforts to advance culture certainly require the support of parents and teachers. We hope to learn from our ancestors' cultural values and implement them in our daily lives. This activity also encourages studios in 27 districts/cities to demonstrate their skills, share knowledge, and serve as a platform for networking and information exchange," he added.

The performance began with a performance by representatives from the city of Bandung, performing the dance drama "Nyi Sumur Bandung." This series of dances tells the story of a princess who embraces her father's sacred mandate to protect ancestral heirlooms and the breath of life. However, behind the light, shadows of envy and slander loom, leading to her exile from the palace.

Despite her injuries, the princess tried to build up her strength to rise again. In her solitude, she rediscovered herself as a woman, flexible as bamboo, yet strong as a rock that resists the current. Nyi Sumur Bandung is more than just a legend. She is a reflection of the strength of Sundanese women.

Next, there will be performances from Cimahi City (April 16), Bogor City (April 21), and Subang Regency (April 30). All events are free to view. (Apun)
