PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan said that the Volunteer Firefighters (Redkar) have a strategic role as the front line in building community resilience in facing various fire risks and other emergencies.

"Redkar not only assists firefighters in handling fires and rescues but also spearheads education for the community about disaster preparedness and resilience," said Farhan when opening the 2026 Volunteer Firefighter (Redkar) Technical Guidance (Bimtek) at the Bandung City Volunteer Firefighting Center (Pussenkav), Tuesday (9/6/2026).

Therefore, the Bandung City Government held a Redkar Technical Guidance (Bimtek) training. The activity, supported by the Indonesian Army's Central Cavalry Weaponry Unit (Pussenkav), served as a strong symbol of collaboration between the government, the TNI, the Regional People's Representative Council (DPRD), and the community in ensuring the safety of Bandung residents.

Farhan appreciated the Indonesian Army's Pussenkav for providing training facilities and also assessed the synergy as a real manifestation of the unity of the TNI and the people.

According to him, the challenges facing the city of Bandung are currently increasingly complex, especially as the dry season approaches, which is predicted to be more extreme due to the El Nino phenomenon.

With a population of over 2.6 million people and high tourist and visitor activity, the risk of fire in densely populated residential areas is a threat that must be anticipated together.

"A single spark can easily spread everywhere. Therefore, we must be prepared for various eventualities, including situations where water sources are difficult to find during a fire," he said.

Farhan revealed that during his tenure as a member of the Indonesian House of Representatives and as Mayor of Bandung, he witnessed various fire incidents that resulted in loss of life and left deep wounds for the families left behind.

This experience became a strong reason for him to continue strengthening the culture of prevention and preparedness in the community.

"I have a message for the volunteers: Prevent that sadness. Stop all risks that could leave us devastated by the loss of our brothers and sisters," he said.

He also emphasized that enthusiasm is a volunteer's primary asset. Every action and dedication performed by Redkar members will provide significant benefits to the community and become a continuous charity.

He hopes that all participants will follow each material with full sincerity, discipline and commitment so that the skills they acquire can be applied optimally in their respective environments.

"Therefore, let's work together to follow all the available materials so we can maximize our potential to maintain the safety of Bandung City," he said. (Bandung City Communications and Information Office/rka)
