PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - Construction on Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) stops at several locations in Bandung has begun. The Bandung City Transportation Agency (Dishub) stated that a total of 232 stops will be built in the city as part of the BRT service expansion in the Bandung Basin area.
Head of the Facilities and Infrastructure Section of the Bandung City Transportation Agency, Ferlian Hadi, explained that the construction of the bus stop is part of the Ministry of Transportation's project which covers the Bandung Basin area.
"There are 256 off-corridor bus stops in the Bandung Basin area. Of these, 232 are in Bandung City and the remaining 24 are in Cimahi City," he told Bandung City Public Relations.
Ferlian said that hundreds of bus stops are spread across 22 sub-districts in Bandung City.
Furthermore, he explained, the bus stops that were built were divided into three types.
Of the 232 bus stops in Bandung City, 172 are bus poles or bus stop markers in the form of poles, 80 are small shelters, and 4 are big shelters.
For large-sized bus stops or big shelters, the plan is to build them in four strategic locations, namely Bandung Hall Station, Jalan Merdeka, Summarecon Mall Bandung, and Kiaracondong Station.
If we look at the road status, as many as 38 bus stops are on national roads, 45 points on provincial roads, and 149 points on city roads.
In addition to off-corridor stops, on-corridor stops will also be built on dedicated BRT lanes. There will be approximately 37 of these, with a separate lane concept using separators, similar to the busway system.
"On-corridor lanes are dedicated. Off-corridor lanes are mixed traffic, or mixed with other vehicles," explained Felian.
Currently, construction of off-corridor bus stops has begun in several locations. According to data from the Transportation Agency, work has begun on approximately 27 locations.
Some of them are in the Soekarno-Hatta area, around GBLA Stadium, Ramdan Street, BKR, Wastukancana, Dago, and Merdeka Street.
Currently, work is still in the initial stages, such as demolition and land preparation.
Ferlian said that, based on the timeline from the Ministry of Transportation, the construction of BRT stops, both on and off corridors, is targeted for completion by the end of 2026.
In this project, the Bandung City Government plays a role in supporting the implementation of development, starting from assisting with the licensing process to land preparation.
"Once construction is complete, the BRT will be managed by the West Java Provincial Government. The West Java Provincial Transportation Agency has appointed PT Jasa Sarana as the temporary operator," Ferlian said.
In the future, BRT services will also be integrated with existing transportation systems. Public transportation is planned to act as a feeder, bringing passengers to the BRT corridor.
During the construction process, the public is advised to remain careful when passing around the work site.
Additionally, the public can submit complaints and feedback regarding the BRT construction to the complaint service at 0813-1436-704. (Bandung City Communications and Information Office/rka)
