PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Bandung City Government is tracing the chicken meat supply chain after the price reached IDR 40,000 per kilogram to maintain food affordability for residents.

Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan conveyed this step while monitoring food conditions in Antapani Tengah Village (27/8/2026).

Farhan said the food supply was generally safe, but the price of chicken meat was the most prominent issue.

"The current problem, it must be acknowledged, is the price of chicken. Chicken is important because it's the second-largest source of protein for Bandung residents after eggs," said Farhan.

According to Farhan, the price of chicken eggs is still stable, while the increase in chicken prices is thought to be related to distribution issues at the upstream level.

"I have instructed the Department of Trade and Industry to investigate why chicken prices have risen above Rp40,000," he said.

The increase in chicken prices has begun to affect the consumption patterns of people who previously ate chicken every day, but now they are eating it less often.

"It seems like a lot of people are nodding along here because suddenly, people who used to eat chicken every day are now eating it three times a week. So, we're going to try to make chicken affordable again," he said.

In addition to chicken, Farhan ensured that Bandung City's rice supply remained secure with supply support from Perum Bulog.

According to Farhan, Bulog guarantees that around 30 percent of the rice distribution will be accessible to the people of Bandung City according to the established scheme.

"Bulog guarantees that around 30 percent of this rice will be available to all Bandung residents. But don't choose quality. If you want to choose quality, follow market mechanisms," Farhan explained.

People who want a certain quality of rice must follow market mechanisms because not all types of rice are included in Bulog's distribution scheme.

Bandung City's food supply also comes from outside the region, with around 16 provinces supplying the community's needs.

"Other supplies from outside the city include 16 provinces that supply Bandung City. The only thing that is currently hampered is the chicken meat," he said.

For beef, the Bandung City Government is following the central government's directives by encouraging strengthening domestic supply and reducing dependence on imports.

Farhan said that around 98 percent of Bandung City's beef needs are still related to imported supplies, including breeding and frozen meat.

"Regarding other food products, as directed by the President, we will help ensure that beef is no longer imported," he said.

The Bandung City Government will continue to monitor food prices and availability, especially commodities that directly impact the community's nutritional needs.

This step is aimed at maintaining the availability of supplies while ensuring that protein-rich foods remain affordable for residents.
