
PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of West Java Province stated that the month-to-month (m-to-m) inflation rate for West Java Province in March 2024 was 0.51 percent. Meanwhile, the year to date (y-to-d) inflation rate was 1.12 percent.
Meanwhile, year on year (y-on-y) inflation in West Java Province was 3.48 percent with a Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 106.78.
The highest inflation occurred in Subang Regency at 4.69 percent with a CPI of 108.67 and the lowest inflation occurred in Bandung City at 2.58 percent with a CPI of 105.98.
Head of West Java BPS Marsudijono said that y-on-y inflation occurred due to price increases in the food, beverage and tobacco groups. In food groups, especially rice, eggs and chicken meat.
"We need special attention from the West Java TPID (Regional Inflation Control Team) to control food prices because they contribute to inflation of 0.43 percent," explained Marsudijono.

BPS said, in March 2024 a survey of producer prices for rice in mills was carried out in 18 districts in West Java, spread across 31 sub-districts with a total of 121 transactions observed.
The average price of premium quality rice at the mill was IDR 14,632 per kg, an increase of 0.80 percent compared to the previous month of IDR 14,515.
The average price of medium quality rice at the mill is IDR 14,189 per kg or a decrease of 3.19 percent from IDR 14,656.
"In 2023, at the start of the year inflation was 6.0 percent, in March it became 5.25 percent and continued to fall until the end of the year. But in 2024, inflation started at 3.02 percent, but in March it rose to 3.48 percent. The graph is rising so it is necessary be wary of rising inflation after Eid al-Fitr," he said.
Meanwhile, the government today, Monday (1/4) at the Central Bulog office simultaneously held an Alert Call to Secure Food Supply and Prices.
In every province/district/city this activity is implemented through the Cheap Food Movement (GPM), including in West Java.
Head of the West Java Province Food and Livestock Security Service (DKPP), Mohamad Arifin, said that GPM activities were held simultaneously in all districts/cities in West Java and implemented by the National Food Agency (Bapanas), also in all provinces and districts/cities throughout Indonesia.
At the West Java Province level, the launch was carried out in Cimahi City, namely at Bulog Cimahi and Melong Housing.
According to Arifin, GPM is a manifestation of the government's presence in order to provide basic commodities for the community and the prices are below market prices. GPM activities will be carried out until H-2 of Eid.
