PORTALJABAR, DISTRICT. BOGOR - Acting Governor of West Java Bey Machmudin commemorated World Water Day by meeting sluice gate guards and dam operational officers throughout West Java in Situ Kemang, Bogor Regency, Thursday (2/5/2024).

In the event entitled Workshop with Sluice Gate Guards (PPA) and Dam Operation Officers (POB) in commemoration of the 32nd World Water Day, Bey appreciated the sluice gate and dam operational officers for their hard work and dedication so far.

According to Bey, sluice gate guards and dam operation officers are often overlooked, even though they are important actors in water management and community safety.

Water gates and dams, he said, are multi-functional infrastructure, such as supporting agriculture, providing a water source for the community, a source of electrical energy, controlling floods, as well as tourism functions.

For this reason, the capacity and capability of sluice gate guards and dam operation officers need to be increased. Bey gave a thumbs up to the Water Resources Department's initiative to hold workshops as well as guidance and training.

"With this coaching activity, it is hoped that it can increase the professionalism and competence of the officers, which in the end will bring great benefits to the people of West Java," said Bey Machmudin.

"Thanks and appreciation to the Water Resources Service for holding various activities aimed at increasing public awareness and understanding about the importance of sustainable water management," added Bey.

World Water Day 2024 carries the theme _'Water for Peace'. Through this theme, it is hoped that water will be maintained and used as much as possible to create harmony, rather than using water for destructive war purposes.

For this reason, Bey invited West Java residents to protect water for the sake of the existence of a sustainable life and environment that humanizes humans.

"By empowering communities, building sustainable infrastructure, and advocating for inclusive policies, we can create an environment where water becomes a tool to unite, not divide," said Bey.

"Let's strengthen collaboration and active involvement of all stakeholders to take real action to protect and preserve water resources," he concluded.
