PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The West Java Provincial Government together with the Bandung City Government are encouraging the strengthening of public transportation, including the development of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), to meet the mobility needs of the community in the Bandung Basin area.

This was conveyed by the Deputy Governor of West Java, Erwan Setiawan, after attending the 216th Anniversary Commemoration Ceremony of Bandung City in 2026 at the Bandung City Hall Plaza, Friday (25/9/2026).

"I'm pushing for development in the transportation sector and infrastructure that directly impacts the community," Erwan said.

Erwan emphasized that the synergy between the West Java Provincial Government and the Bandung City Government will continue to be strengthened. He hopes this collaboration will propel Bandung into a major, increasingly developed city that the people of West Java can be proud of.

"God willing, our collaboration between the people of West Java and the city of Bandung will continue to run smoothly. I'm confident we can make this happen," he said.

Meanwhile, Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan stated that one form of collaboration in the transportation sector is realized through the development of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT). This program is part of efforts to address transportation issues in the Bandung Basin area, involving the city of Bandung, Bandung Regency, West Bandung Regency, Cimahi City, and Sumedang Regency.

"BRT is one way to address this. This is a huge challenge because BRT will be the central and provincial governments' solution for managing transportation in the Bandung Basin," said Farhan.

Besides transportation, Farhan mentioned that waste management is another sector that requires cross-government collaboration. He said the Bandung City Government is strongly committed to developing waste management with modern technology through the construction of the Waste to Energy (PSEL) Plant in Legok Nangka.

"We are also strongly committed to modern waste management technology, and we will jointly build the PSEL, as promised. Hopefully, construction will continue in Legok Nangka from the groundbreaking until now," he said.

The 216th anniversary of Bandung City carries the theme "Solidarity in Harmony". This theme also serves as a new visual identity for Bandung City, conveying a message of togetherness, solidarity, and diversity in society.

The development collaboration between the West Java Provincial Government and the Bandung City Government is expected to continue to meet the various needs of the community, particularly in the transportation, infrastructure, and environmental management sectors.
