PORTALJABAR, SUKABUMI CITY - West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi hopes that Sukabumi will become a comfortable and clean model city that will have implications for improving the tourism world.
For this reason, the Governor asked the Mayor of Sukabumi, Ayep Zaki and Deputy Mayor Bobby Maulana to move quickly to identify the city's problems felt by the community and then create solutions.
"The government must start being diligent, if (like) in the city (Sukabumi) it's easy, the Mayor goes everywhere by bicycle to the alleys. After one month, the problem can be identified," said Dedi Mulyadi after the Plenary Meeting of the 111th Anniversary of Sukabumi City at the Sukabumi City DPRD Building, Thursday (10/4/2025).
According to KDM – Dedi Mulyadi’s nickname – the Sukabumi City Government also needs to pay attention to the quality of cleanliness in traditional markets. If the service is good and the cleanliness of the environment is maintained, it will attract tourists to come to the city of Sukabumi.
"Market services must be clean because this city must be good. So God willing, it will have implications on the growth of people's participation, the level of visits, later people will stay comfortably, eat comfortably. Because (a) city, (the supporting factor) is its income," said Dedi.
The Governor reminded the Mayor of Sukabumi to optimize basic clean water services, equalize electricity connections, waste management, and reduce poverty rates.
"Then the basic and secondary education services are in good condition and all (the community) are accommodated, especially now that we will face the high school/vocational school admission season," he said.
According to the Governor, Sukabumi City with its history as a plantation center has strong capital to advance. Therefore, the Governor asked for the identity to be brought back.
"Sukabumi must immediately organize itself as a city. It used to be a plantation city center, the historical genealogy must be immediately seen and the nomenclature and historical sequence must be searched for, the basic foundations for the formation of Sukabumi City," he added.
"So that later from there it can be branded as a plantation city at that time. If now the climate has changed, the nuances of the city must still be arranged and maintained," concluded Dedi.
Sukabumi City Anniversary is set to fall on April 1. The name Sukabumi itself has existed since the Dutch colonial era in 1815, coined by surgeon and coffee entrepreneur Andries de Wilde.
Sukabumi used to be a settlement part of the Gunung Parang District, Cianjur Expansion Region, Preanger Residency. Along with the construction of the Great Post Road by Daendles, many Europeans settled, and the existence of plantations, Sukabumi's status increased from a district to a municipality (Gementee).
During the Japanese colonial era, Sukabumi was named Soekaboemi Shi. After independence, its name became the City of Sukabumi, and in 1965 it became a Level II Municipality. Until finally in the era of regional autonomy it became the City of Sukabumi which was separated from Sukabumi Regency.
