PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - Acting (Pj.) Mayor of Bandung Bambang Tirtoyuliono emphasized that the resolution of the climate crisis must be implemented immediately to ensure a better future for children and grandchildren in the future.

Bambang underlined the importance of increasing public awareness of climate change.

"Climate change is an important issue that society must be aware of. This is a phenomenon that cannot be avoided and we must change our behavior towards the environment," said Bambang.

Bambang stated this during the commemoration of World Environment Day at the Biodiversity Park (KEHATI), on Jalan Gagak-Cipadung, Palasari Village, Cibiru District, Bandung City, Wednesday (12/6/2024).

The theme of this year's World Environment Day commemoration is "Land Restoration, Degradation and Resilience", which emphasizes the importance of resolving the climate crisis with the principles of justice.

Bambang also highlighted the increasing problem of waste management. Waste generation increased from 250 tons to 800 tons per day.

"This shows that waste has economic value if it is managed well, such as turning it into compost, RDF or maggot. We must ensure that this success is sustainable with the support of all stakeholders," he explained.

Bambang invited all parties to commit to protecting the environment.

"Happy Environment Day. This is a momentum to be more caring and responsible for the environment. Let's commit to a better future for our children and grandchildren," he added.

Meanwhile, Head of the Bandung City Environmental Service, Dudy Prayudi, conveyed that concrete actions had been taken to protect the environment.

"A number of environmental actions have been carried out in the city of Bandung, including River Clean Up activities around the Cikapundung River, vehicle emissions testing, implementation of Friday Car Free Day at city hall, and planting trees in KEHATI Park," he said.

Dudy hopes that this event can be a momentum for the people of Bandung City to continue to care and be active in preserving the environment.
