PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Bandung City Regional Government (Pemda) is ready to commemorate the 2025 National Waste Awareness Day (HPSN) which falls on February 21. This year's commemoration is an important moment because it is close to the inauguration of the new Mayor of Bandung.
Head of the Bandung City Environmental Service, Dudi Prayudi, said that the Bandung City Government will participate in the event that has been arranged by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry.
"We will join the series of events that have been prepared by the ministry," he said to Bandung City Public Relations, Saturday (2/15/2025).
As part of the commemoration, on February 22, a market clean-up action will be held simultaneously throughout Indonesia.
Dudi said that the Minister of Environment will attend the event at Pasar Atas Cimahi. Meanwhile, the city of Bandung will also hold a similar action at one of the markets that is still in the coordination stage with Perumda Pasar.
"On February 17, the Bandung City Government will inaugurate the operation of the waste disposal machine in Bandung Kulon District. This event will also be combined with the first delivery of RDF (Refuse-Derived Fuel) from waste processing at TPST to PT Indocement. In addition, there will be a handover of CSR assistance from BJB in the form of waste management facilities and infrastructure to RW and communities," he explained.
Dudi emphasized that the HPSN commemoration aims to increase public awareness regarding the importance of waste management.
HPSN was first commemorated on February 21 as a form of reflection on the tragedy of the landslide of garbage at the Leuwigajah TPA in 2005 which killed around 150 people.
"We want to continue to remind the public about the importance of sorting and processing waste from the household, RW, sub-district, district, to city levels. If all elements of society work together, waste management in Bandung City will be better," he said. (Bandung City Communication and Information Service/Revo)
