PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - Deputy Governor of West Java Erwan Setiawan became the instructor for the 98th Youth Pledge Day Commemoration Ceremony at the West Java Province Level in 2026 at the Arcamanik Stadium Parking Lot, SPOrT Jabar Arcamanik, Bandung City, Wednesday (28/10/2026).
Reading the remarks of the Minister of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Indonesia Erick Thohir, Erwan said that the younger generation is encouraged to strengthen their patriotic character, be persistent in their struggle, and have concern for others as capital to build the future of the nation.
The spirit of the Youth Pledge must live on, not just as a historical record, but also be reflected in the character and real actions of the nation's next generation.
"Ninety-eight years ago, Indonesian youth made a promise. A promise that united differences, a promise that strengthened the struggle, a promise that gave birth to the determination to stand as one Indonesian nation," read an excerpt from the Minister of Youth and Sports' remarks, read by Erwan.
Indonesia's development cannot be measured solely by tall buildings, technological advancements, or material wealth. True progress must begin with the quality of its people, strong character, love for its homeland, and concern for others.
Therefore, it is hoped that the young generation of Indonesia will grow into patriotic, persistent, and empathetic individuals.
"These three values are an important foundation for national progress to go hand in hand with the strengthening of humanitarian values," said Erwan.
Patriotism, he continued, must be demonstrated through devotion and concrete actions, not merely expressions of love for one's country. Meanwhile, persistence is needed to ensure the younger generation does not give up when faced with difficulties or failure.
Empathy is a reminder that success is not solely measured by personal achievement, but also by the ability to understand and help others who need help.
"Patriotism without concern loses its meaning, tenacity without conscience loses its direction, and progress without humanity is not true progress," Erwan said.
He also advised Indonesian youth to dare to dream big, work hard, and become strong individuals without losing their gentleness.
"The younger generation is expected to not only have the courage to lead, but also to be willing to serve and provide benefits to society," said Erwan.
Every knowledge, work, and sacrifice, according to him, must be real evidence of love for Indonesia.
Thus, the spirit of the Youth Pledge can be realized through concrete contributions in various areas of life.
This 98th Youth Pledge Day commemoration is a moment to reaffirm the role of the younger generation in the nation's journey. Youth are not only the future, but also a vital part of Indonesia's development efforts, starting today.
"The future of the nation is not just something we will meet, the future is something we are building together," said Erwan Setiawan.
