PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - Regional Secretary of West Java Province Herman Suryatman said that broadcasting must bring benefits to all levels of society by broadcasting good information and content.

Herman said this when attending the Broadcasting Expo which is a series of West Java Province Regional Broadcasting Days (Harsiarda) at Gedung Sate, Bandung City, Saturday (8/6/2024).

"Of course in broadcasting there is information, there is a message conveyed, and the essence must be to provide literacy to the public," said Herman.

Apart from that, Herman also said that broadcasting in West Java must be fair. Proportionately, the content broadcast by broadcasting institutions must be able to meet the information needs of all groups, from children, adults to the elderly.

"We have problems, for example stunting is still high, unemployment, the emok bank phenomenon, the key is literacy and public understanding of these things," said Herman.

"So this is a joint task, including broadcasting institutions, to educate the public, either directly or indirectly. There is television, radio, if we move everything, educate the public," he added.

Herman hopes that this year's Harsiarda will be a momentum for broadcasting institutions to convey useful content and information while strengthening public literacy.

"Community welfare is a fundamental thing that is our priority at the West Java Provincial Government," he said.

The Commissioner of the Central Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI), Amin Shabana, said the same thing. According to him, development targets can be achieved with the support of all parties, including broadcasting institutions. Moreover, West Java is a miniature national broadcasting industry.

"Broadcasting institutions have a strategic position to be able to provide outreach and campaigns to the public," he said.

"We from the Central KPI really appreciate the steps taken by the West Java KPID, which we have noticed at the forefront in initiating matters related to the public interest in the broadcasting industry," he added.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the West Java Regional Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPID) Adiyana Slamet said that the theme of the 2024 Harsiarda at the West Java Provincial Level was "Just Broadcasting". With this theme, he took an inventory of the needs of the people of West Java in the context of broadcasting.

Adiyana said that at last year's Harsiarda commemoration, Pasagi or Digital Media Monitoring had been launched to save the people of West Java from malinformation in the digital world.

"So the West Java KPID continues to echo that the state should not lose out on saving society by controlling portions of digital sovereignty by global platforms," he said.
