PORTALJABAR, GARUT REGENCY - Garut Regent Abdusy Syakur Amin attended the 13th anniversary celebration of the Garut News Daily newspaper, held at the Youth Building in Tarogong Kidul District, Garut Regency, on Tuesday (June 30, 2026). The anniversary was used to strengthen the media's role in addressing the challenges of hoaxes through professional journalism.

The 13th anniversary celebration of the Garut News Daily carried the theme "Garut Digitalization" and was attended by the Head of the Communication and Informatics Service (Diskominfo) of Garut Regency, the Head of the Youth and Sports Service of Garut Regency, the Head of Tarogong Kidul District, the Chair of the PSSI of Garut Regency, the Chair of the KNPI Garut, and the Chair of the IJTI Korda Garut.

Garut Regent Abdusy Syakur Amin highlighted the rapid technological developments that have transformed the media landscape. He stated that electronic and digital media have a significant influence on shaping public opinion.

"This is one of the most powerful forces, it is digital power," said Abdusy Syakur Amin.

According to the Regent, these technological developments must be balanced with the strengthening of professional journalism. The widespread spread of hoaxes is a challenge that must be faced together to ensure the public receives accurate, objective, and reliable information.

"There we see the crucial role of journalism. Journalism must be understood in terms of professionalism, capable of providing intelligence to the public, and providing hope to the community," the Regent emphasized.

The Regent of Garut also congratulated the Garut News Daily on its 13th anniversary and appreciated the media's contribution in conveying information that supports regional development.

The Chief Editor of Harian Garut News, Igie N. Rukmana, emphasized the commitment of his staff to continue developing Harian Garut News as a professional, independent, and adaptive media to technological developments.

"Amidst the rapidly changing media landscape, where the flow of information moves without limits and social media becomes a very dynamic competitive space, we have been able to survive for 13 years," said Igie.

Igie added that the media plays a strategic role in shaping how the public understands various events. Garut News Daily is expected to continue to be part of strengthening a healthy information ecosystem in Garut Regency.

Garut News Daily Editor, Aas Kosasih, said that the profession of journalist is a noble profession because it carries the responsibility of conveying fact-based information to the public.

"Therefore, God willing, the profession of journalism is noble for spreading the truth," said Aas Kosasih.

Entering its 13th year, Harian Garut News is expected to continue to maintain professionalism, independence, and journalistic quality as part of its efforts to present intelligent information and strengthen public literacy in the digital era.
