PORTALJABAR, GARUT REGENCY - The Garut Regency Government granted remissions to 503 inmates at the Garut Class IIA Prison in commemoration of the 81st anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia.
Garut Regent Abdusy Syakur Amin handed over the remission at the Class IIA Garut Prison, Banyuresmi 17/8/2026.
Remission is given as an award for the good guidance and behavior of inmates during their prison sentence.
Abdusy Syakur read the remarks of the Minister of Immigration and Corrections of the Republic of Indonesia, Agus Andrianto, regarding the granting of rights to inmates.
Remission is also part of social reintegration so that inmates return to society with behavioral changes and guidance provisions.
"Meanwhile, for foster children, sentence reduction has a much deeper meaning. The state views every child as the nation's next generation and has ample opportunity to improve their future," he said.
Head of Class IIA Garut Prison, Rusdedy, said the number of inmates reached 645 people based on data from 16/8/2026.
This number consists of 641 convicts and four detainees, with 503 convicts receiving General Remission 2026.
A total of 502 prisoners received General Remission I in the form of a reduction in their sentence of between one and six months.
One prisoner received General Remission II for three months and was immediately declared free after receiving a reduction in his sentence.
Rusdedy said that the granting of remissions was based on the process of coaching, behavior, and discipline of inmates during their prison terms.
The remission proposal process is carried out transparently, accountably, and on time with the support of various parties.
The granting of remissions also resulted in state budget efficiency by reducing the cost of inmates' meals by Rp1.009 billion.
"These figures demonstrate that the implementation of the correctional system is not only oriented towards fostering and fulfilling the rights of inmates but can also contribute to efficiency and accountability in managing the state budget," he emphasized.
