PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Bandung City Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that inflation in Bandung City in October 2024 reached 0.04 percent on a monthly basis (month-to-month).

Meanwhile, Bandung City's annual inflation (year-on-year) was recorded at 1.66 percent, below the average inflation in West Java of 1.92 percent and the national inflation of 1.71 percent. The largest contribution to inflation this month came from the Food, Beverages, and Tobacco group.

According to BPS data, the commodity that most influenced inflation in October was rice. Rice prices continued to rise and contributed significantly to both monthly and annual inflation.

In addition, gold jewelry also plays a role as a driver of inflation, especially in the Personal Care and Other Services group. Other commodities that contribute are cooking oil and shallots, although their share is relatively small.

In the expenditure group, the highest increase occurred in the Food, Beverages, and Tobacco group, contributing 0.07 percent to monthly inflation.

For annual inflation, this group also contributed the largest contribution, namely 0.95 percent. Followed by the Personal Care and Other Services group which contributed 0.44 percent.

Meanwhile, other commodities such as rice with side dishes in the Food and Beverage Provision/Restaurant group contributed 0.17 percent annually.

Regionally, month-on-month inflation in Bandung City is in the 5th lowest position out of 10 cities and districts in West Java.

The increase in food prices such as rice caused by weather conditions and distribution is predicted to still affect inflation in the next few months.

BPS appealed for anticipation and stabilization of staple food prices amid increasing demand towards the end of the year.
