PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Bandung City Government (Pemkot) has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining cleanliness throughout the city, including Jalan Cikutra and Jalan Ahmad Yani, near Santo Yusup Hospital.
The Bandung City Government received a report that certain residents were seen littering on Jalan Cikutra and Ahmad Yani around Santo Yusup Hospital.
Following the report, Bandung Deputy Mayor Erwin visited the location on Monday, September 15, 2025. He was accompanied by the Head of the Public Order Agency (Satpol PP), the Head of the Bandung City Environmental Agency, the Head of the Cibeunying Kidul District, the Head of the Cikutra Village, and several other relevant officials.
During the inspection, Erwin said that most of the people who dumped the waste were not local residents.
"Thank God, I visited here today to monitor the situation and discuss it with the sub-district head and the village head. It turns out that most of the trash piled up on this road isn't from local residents. This habit is suspected to have been carried over since the COVID-19 pandemic and continues to this day," he explained.
The Bandung City Government will optimize the Temporary Waste Disposal Sites (TPS) in the area, including plans to install incinerators and renovate the land for more optimal waste management.
In addition, the government will also strengthen oversight by deploying Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) personnel along Jalan Ahmad Yani to Jalan Cicadas. This measure is being taken to discourage people from littering.
"We urge residents of Bandung and the surrounding areas to stop dumping trash on the roadside. If caught, we will take firm action in accordance with local regulations and can immediately prosecute," he stressed.
Erwin also instructed sub-district heads and village heads to collaborate with neighborhood association (RW) heads in the three affected villages: Cikutra, Kebonwaru, and Cicadas. This is to strengthen public education on maintaining a clean environment.
"This isn't just about trash, but also about Bandung's image. We mustn't let Bandung be seen as dirty just because of the actions of a handful of irresponsible individuals," he added.
In addition to the waste issue, Erwin also highlighted the activities of street vendors (PKL) in the area. Erwin emphasized that street vendors are only permitted to operate until 6:30 a.m. WIB. After that, the area must be cleaned immediately, and the waste must be disposed of at the landfill.
"The street vendors are here until 6:30 a.m., after which they must finish, and the trash is immediately transported to the landfill. The problem is that the area along Jalan Ahmad Yani-Cicadas is still prone to pollution due to residents' indiscriminate littering," he explained.
As a follow-up measure, Satpol PP patrols will begin to be conducted daily. Residents caught littering will be immediately prosecuted and may be prosecuted according to applicable law.
"Residents of Bandung, especially those around here, please stop throwing trash on the side of the road. Starting tomorrow, we will be conducting patrols, and any violators will be dealt with according to the regulations," said Erwin.
