PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - West Java is determined to produce a double champion by becoming number one at the XVII/2024 National Paralympic Week (Peparnas) in Solo City, 6 - 13 October 2024.
West Java has just become the overall champion of PON XXI/2024 Aceh - North Sumatra and this is the third time in a row.
By combining the overall champion title of PON and Peparnas, West Java's sporting achievements are complete: not only in the line of athletes with abilities but also athletes with disabilities.
Acting Governor of West Java Bey Machmudin asked Peparnas athletes to focus on each match so as not to be too burdened.
"Indeed, the target is to be the overall champion, but the important thing is to focus on each match, don't think too much about the far-reaching," said Bey Machmudin, Thursday ( 3/10/2024 ).
Bey is optimistic that with seriousness, discipline and hard work in the match, success can be achieved.
"I see the athletes' optimism to win. What is important is the spirit and seriousness in competing, then achievements can be achieved," he said.
Peparnas XVII/2024 Solo will compete in 20 sports, of which West Java itself will participate in 16 sports.
In the athletics branch, West Java has the most athletes with 74 athletes, fencing (7), weightlifting (19), badminton (25), cycling (9), bowling (19), chess (24), goalball (11), judo (28), shooting (13), archery (16), swimming (37), taekwondo (10), tennis (7), table tennis (37) and sitting volleyball with nine athletes.
If the spirit carried in PON is "Jabar Hattrick", then in Peparnas XVII/2024 Solo the spirit held is "Jabar Kahiji".
The organizing committee has prepared 17 venues spread across Solo City, Sukoharjo Regency, Boyolali Regency, and Karanganyar Regency.
In fact, Peparnas XVII/2024 will be held in North Sumatra, but due to one reason or another it was moved to Solo City.
The relocation of the Peparnas location from North Sumatra to Solo is expected not to be a significant obstacle for athletes from West Java.
According to the General Chairperson of the West Java National Paralympic Committee (NPCI) Indonesia, Hary Susanto, the Peparnas athletes have prepared themselves optimally.
"West Java at Peparnas XVII/2024 Solo has gone through thorough preparation, through systematic stages, namely Peparda in Bekasi Regency 2022," said Hary Susanto.
In total, West Java sent 347 selected athletes, plus 74 coaches, 47 assistant coaches, 16 officials, 16 managers, plus a health team including doctors, nurses, psychologists, nutritionists, and therapists.
