PORTALJABAR, GARUT REGENCY - The Communication and Informatics Service (Diskominfo) of West Java Province through Jabar Saber Hoaks (JSH) in collaboration with the Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) of West Java Province carried out an activity to increase the capacity of Content Supervision and Fact Checking for the 2024 Pilkada which was attended by Bawaslu representatives from regencies/cities throughout West Java in Garut Regency, Monday (28/10/2024).

This activity is an effort to realize the implementation of the simultaneous Pilkada in West Java in 2024 which is democratic and quality, and is also the output of the Joint Commitment product between the West Java Provincial Communication and Information Office and the West Java Provincial Bawaslu. Regarding Supervision of the 2024 West Java Pilkada Content.

JSH Chairperson Alfianto Yustinova said in his speech that West Java is the province with the largest number of voters, so it requires a society that is resilient to information, who is able to adapt to forms and media of communication.

Alfianto also explained the need to provide accurate, clear, and reliable information related to the 2024 Pilkada amidst the flood of information in various media that are experiencing information obesity, making them vulnerable to the emergence of misinformation and disinformation which results in information chaos, even destroying the order of the communication system in society.

Through this activity, Alfianto hopes that participants will be able to build their monitoring and fact-checking capacity in overcoming hoaxes for the success of the 2024 Regional Election in West Java which is calm: safe, neutral, and peaceful.

Also present in this activity were resource persons Isti Khoirana Karim as Head of Legal, Public Relations and Data Division of Bawaslu West Java Province and Tommy Sutami from JSH.

Isti delivered material related to the Prevention of Content Violations which requires the Internet Content Supervision Facilitation Team (Cyber) in identifying potential vulnerabilities of hoaxes related to the Regional Elections for collaborative prevention with multi-stakeholder Elections.

In addition, Isti continued, in the prevention it is necessary to identify accounts and/or content that violate on social media according to each level. Other efforts that need to be made are to publish information regarding the official channels for complaints of SARA politicization, hoaxes and hate speech for the 2024 Election, as well as internet content (cyber) monitoring patrols in collaboration with agencies that handle communication and information.

Tommy Sutami as a resource person from JSH provided training material on anti-Hoax or Independent Fata Check, which emphasized important aspects related to verifying content and sources of information, as well as verifying photo and video content.

Tommy also conveyed the importance of the ability to identify hoaxes, including: checking media addresses and visual details of the media, being aware of media with too many advertisements, and being wary of news with sensational titles.
