PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The 81st anniversary of West Java Province not only marks a milestone in its history, but also serves as a reminder for the West Java Provincial Government (Pemprov) to improve public services in education, health, infrastructure, and other sectors.

Infrastructure development, particularly roads, is a key and strategic program of the West Java Provincial Government. The goal is to provide smooth and comfortable roads to achieve equitable economic growth and regional development.

The Head of the West Java Public Works and Spatial Planning Agency, Agung Wahyudi, said that as of August 9, 2026, 43,589 kilometers of roads under the authority of the West Java Provincial Government had been completed, out of the planned 149,801 kilometers this year.

In addition, 2.25 kilometers of the planned 15.631 kilometers of roads have been widened, complete with drainage and road markings. This year, 47 bridge repair/replacement packages, four additional buildings, and one flyover and one underpass each were also completed.

In 2026, the West Java Provincial Government also drafted the West Java Regional Spatial Plan (RTRW) to balance development and environmental sustainability, incorporating Sundanese, colonial, and protected area spatial planning concepts. The Technical Study for the Preparation of Indications for the Main Spatial Utilization Program for West Java Province has entered the data inventory stage.

Meanwhile, in the health sector, the West Java Provincial Government is striving to ensure that all residents have health insurance from the BPJS Kesehatan (Social Security Agency for Health). As of August 1, 2026, 50,590,681 West Java residents were covered by BPJS Kesehatan. This number represents 96.90 percent of the population of West Java.

The Head of the West Java Health Office, Vini Adiani Dewi, stated that the target is for 99 percent of West Java residents to be covered by the National Health Insurance (BPJS Kesehatan) program by 2029. Strategies to achieve this target include preparing a budget to support the national health insurance (JKN) program, both by the West Java provincial government and district/city governments.

In addition, the West Java Health Office is also optimizing the reconciliation of BPJS Health participant data in the regions, both at the provincial and district/city levels.

"We are also improving the quality of services at healthcare facilities so that BPJS patients receive the best possible care," Vini said after the DPRD Plenary Meeting in commemoration of the 81st Anniversary of West Java Province, Wednesday (19/8/2026).

Development of educational units

In the education sector, this year, the West Java Provincial Government plans to develop educational units in 25 locations across various regencies/cities in West Java, including Pangandaran, Depok, Bogor, Bekasi, Cimahi, Sumedang, Tasikmalaya, Ciamis, Subang, Bandung, Cirebon, and Purwakarta. This includes the construction of new school units in 22 locations and new building units in three locations.

The Head of the West Java Education Office, Purwanto, explained that this program was implemented to increase capacity, expand the reach of educational services, and reduce the gap in access to education.

In addition to developing educational institutions, the West Java Provincial Government is also building new classrooms. This year, a total of 203 new classrooms were built across 102 schools. The breakdown is as follows: 114 classrooms for senior high schools, 67 for vocational high schools, and 22 for special needs schools.

"In addition, moderate/heavy rehabilitation was carried out on 58 schools with a total of 114 classrooms, consisting of 75 high school classrooms, 24 vocational school classrooms, and 15 special needs school classrooms," said Purwanto.
