PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - In January 2024 there will be annual inflation (year on year/YoY) in West Java Province of 3.02 percent with a Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 105.76.

The highest inflation occurred in Subang Regency at 4.90 percent with a CPI of 108.37 and the lowest occurred in Bandung City at 1.90 percent with a CPI of 105.00.

Head of the West Java Central Statistics Agency (BPS) Marsudijono in a press conference said that y-on-y inflation occurred due to an increase in prices as indicated by an increase in the expenditure group index, namely the food, beverage and tobacco group by 6.51 percent; clothing and footwear group by 1.26 percent; housing, water, electricity and household fuel group at 0.30 percent; equipment, tools and routine household maintenance group amounted to 0.98 percent.

Then the health group was 2.69 percent; transportation group by 0.62 percent; recreation, sports and culture group at 4.16 percent; education group at 1.39 percent; food and beverage/restaurant provision group at 3.51 percent; and the personal care and other services group at 4.82 percent.

"While the expenditure group
which experienced a decline in the index, namely the information, communication and
financial services by 0.23 percent," said Marsudijono in Bandung City, Thursday (1/2/2024).

Month to month (m-to-m) inflation rate and year to date (y-to-d) inflation rate
West Java in January 2024 each at 0.15 percent.

Meanwhile, BPS noted that West Java's December 2023 trade balance experienced a surplus in terms of value of
1.80 billion US dollars.

This value was supported by a non-oil and gas commodity surplus of 1.94 billion US dollars. Meanwhile, the oil and gas commodity deficit was 143.83 million US dollars.

In terms of foreign trade volume, in December 2023 there was a surplus of 259.55 thousand tons, which was contributed by a non-oil and gas commodity surplus of 456.20 thousand tons. Meanwhile, the oil and gas commodity deficit was 196.64 thousand tons.

Judging from non-oil and gas trade transactions with 13 main trading partner countries, in the December 2023 period, West Java experienced a trade balance deficit with China and Taiwan worth 85.08 million US dollars, a decrease compared to the previous month's deficit of 89.02 million US dollars.

Meanwhile, non-oil and gas trade with other main countries showed a surplus. The largest trade balance surplus was with the United States reaching 447.64 million US dollars.
