PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Bandung City Government is strengthening its anticipatory measures for weather changes and the arrival of the rainy season. One of the city government's primary concerns is ensuring optimal waste management and drainage conditions in the area to prevent potential disruptions during the rainy season.
The Regional Secretary of Bandung City, Iskandar Zulkarnain, asked regional and territorial officials to improve coordination in dealing with these weather changes.
This was conveyed by Iskandar when giving directions at the Start of Work Roll Call at the Bandung City Hall Plaza, Monday (5/10/2026).
Iskandar stated that climate change needs to be anticipated together, particularly regarding the issue of waste that has the potential to clog waterways. This situation needs to be addressed early on to ensure waterways can function properly when rainfall intensity increases.
"When the rainy season comes, we have to anticipate the impact of garbage, especially in areas where the water channels are clogged," said Iskandar.
He asked regional officials with duties and functions related to waste management and water channel infrastructure to coordinate with regional elements.
According to him, preventative measures cannot be taken by just one regional government. Sub-districts and urban villages need to monitor environmental conditions in their respective areas and coordinate immediately if any issues that could potentially disrupt water flow are identified.
"I've asked the regional and relevant agencies to prepare for waste management," he said.
Iskandar said that cleaning up rubbish around water channels is one of the steps that needs to be taken to maintain the smooth flow of water.
In addition to environmental issues, climate change also needs to be accompanied by increased awareness of the health conditions of the public and officials.
Iskandar reminded Bandung City Government officials to maintain their health amidst changing weather conditions. He advised that adopting a healthy lifestyle and wearing masks are among the measures that can be taken to prevent the spread of disease.
He hopes that all levels of the Bandung City Government will increase their awareness of the condition of their respective environments. (Bandung City Communications and Information Service/rka)
