PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Bandung City Government (Pemkot) has confirmed that prices of basic necessities (kepokmas) remain relatively safe and stable ahead of the holy month of Ramadan 1447 Hijri. Despite being affected by extreme weather and heavy rainfall, price fluctuations in traditional markets are considered reasonable and under control.

Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan stated that the Bandung City Trade and Industry Agency (Disdagin) continues to intensively monitor prices in several traditional markets. The monitoring results indicate no extreme price spikes that could potentially disrupt public purchasing power.

"Generally, prices remain under control. There has been a slight increase in some horticultural commodities, such as chilies, due to weather factors, but this is still within reasonable limits and has not increased sharply," said Farhan on Sunday (February 1, 2026).

According to a report from the Bandung City Trade and Industry Office, the price of red cayenne pepper is currently around Rp 58,000 per kilogram, an increase of around Rp 9,000 compared to the previous period. However, this figure is considered significantly lower than the price spike in the previous period, which reached Rp 80,000 to Rp 100,000 per kilogram.

"Compared to when I conducted a surprise inspection with the Department of Trade and Industry and the National Logistics Agency (Bulog) some time ago, the situation is actually more stable now," he said.

Meanwhile, animal protein prices were observed to remain at normal levels. According to data from the Department of Trade and Industry (Disdagin) as of the end of January 2026, beef prices were around Rp140,000 per kilogram, broiler chicken Rp38,000 per kilogram, and chicken eggs Rp29,000 per kilogram.

"The meat sector is relatively stable. There have been no significant price fluctuations," explained Farhan.

Regarding the landslide that occurred in West Bandung Regency (KBB), Farhan confirmed that food distribution to Bandung City was uninterrupted. Distribution channels are considered to remain smooth, thus not impacting supply or market prices.

"Distribution from distributors is secure. There are no supply disruptions to Bandung City," he said.

Farhan emphasized that the Bandung City Government is committed to maintaining stable food prices leading up to Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr. He believes price stability is key to ensuring people can carry out their religious obligations peacefully without being burdened by rising living costs.

"We don't want the people of Bandung to face Ramadan with anxiety about food prices. The government is here to ensure a secure supply, controlled prices, and maintained purchasing power," he stressed.

As a precautionary measure, the Bandung City Government, through the Department of Trade and Industry, will once again hold the Main Cheap Bazaar (Bazmut) in 30 districts. This program is designed to maintain price affordability and reduce potential inflation in the lead-up to Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr.

"This low-cost bazaar isn't just a ceremonial activity, but a concrete tool to maintain price stability for consumers. We want residents to be able to purchase basic necessities at more affordable prices," concluded Farhan. (Bandung City Communications and Information Office/bhf)
