PORTALJABAR, GARUT REGENCY - Garut Regent Abdusy Syakur Amin attended the inauguration of the Cikuray Train, which now uses the People's Economy Train and the Farmers and Traders Train. The inauguration was officially held at Garut Station, Garut Kota District, Garut Regency, on Thursday (June 11, 2026).

The presence of this special train series is a concrete manifestation of the government's commitment together with state-owned enterprises to provide inclusive, safe, comfortable, affordable, and equitable public transportation services, especially for the community, farmers, and traders in the Garut area.

The Acting Director of Railway Traffic and Transportation at the Directorate General of Railways at the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation, Aditya Karsa, explained that this facility is designed to facilitate the mobilization of local commodities.

"This service facilitates farmers and traders in transporting agricultural products and merchandise at affordable transportation costs. This program also aligns with inclusive transportation policies that promote equitable access to transportation," said Aditya.

This step is expected to streamline the food supply chain and strengthen the distribution of agricultural products from Garut.

This appreciation also came from the Regent of Garut, Abdusy Syakur Amin, who expressed his high appreciation and welcomed this transportation innovation.

He noted the increase in carriage capacity on the train, which has increased by around 10 percent, which is believed to encourage the optimization of public interest in using this mode of mass transportation.

The Regent then reflected on the history of railways in Garut, which were introduced in 1889 with the Garut-Cibatu-Cikajang route. Since then, the line's primary purpose has been to transport Garut's mainstay commodities, such as plantation products.

"Today reaffirms the original meaning and function of trains as a mode of transportation for our agricultural products. I hope that in the future, there will be more train schedules in Garut," the Regent said.

At the end of his speech, the Regent asked the relevant agencies to immediately socialize and introduce the new capacity of the Farmers and Traders Train to the wider community.

Meanwhile, the Director of Business and Business Development of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero), Rafly Yandra, explained that today was the first trip (launching) for the Cikuray train series with this new formation.

The Cikuray train carries a total of 6 carriages, with details:

* 5 carriages for the People's Economy Train (capacity 93 seats per carriage).
* 1 special carriage for Farmers and Traders Train (capacity 73 seats).

Rafly emphasized that the Cikuray train, with its people's economy, farmers, and traders, will operate every day with the following schedule:

* Morning Departure: Departs from Garut Station at 06.05 WIB and is scheduled to arrive at Pasar Senen Station, Jakarta at 11.00 WIB.
* Return Journey: Departs from Pasar Senen Station at 17.00 WIB and arrives back at Garut Station at 23.00 WIB.

"Hopefully, the presence of the People's Economy Train and the special Farmer-Trader train on the Cikuray train can help the economy of the people in Garut Regency, especially farmers, traders, and MSMEs," concluded Rafly (Garut Communications and Information Service/rka)
