PORTALJABAR, BEKASI REGENCY - The Bekasi Regency Transportation Agency (Dishub) will add and maintain thousands of public street lights (PJU) in various areas in 2026.

The installation covers the northern and southern regions, urban areas, and strategic access around the Cibitung-Cilincing Toll Flyover.

Acting Head of the Bekasi Regency Transportation Agency, Andi Suhadhi, said the addition of street lighting was done to maximize lighting while providing a sense of safety and comfort.

"Regarding the installation and maintenance of street lights, in 2026, several areas will have street lights installed," said Andi while attending the National Transportation Day Ceremony at the Bekasi Regency Government Complex, Thursday (17/9/2026).

Andi detailed that the installation of decorative PJU includes 350 poles, while the single ornamental handlebar covers 150 PJU pole points.

In addition, single-bar street lights were installed massively in a number of areas in Bekasi Regency.

For the southern region there are 983 PJU points, while the northern region reaches 983 PJU points.

"With this number, hopefully we can maximize lighting on public roads," he explained.

The Bekasi Regency Transportation Agency also installed PJU around the strategic area of the Cibitung-Cilincing Toll Flyover, especially the Wanasari and Wanajaya areas.

According to Andi, this step strengthens lighting in areas with high levels of community mobility.

The Bekasi Regency Transportation Agency also provides a complaint service via social media for people who find street lights that are broken or experiencing problems.

"We've opened a social media platform for complaints in the event of a power outage or a streetlight outage. We'll respond with our 24-hour storage team," he said.

Andi said that every report received is targeted to be handled within a maximum of 2 x 24 hours.

Currently, the Transportation Agency is also focusing on maintaining street lighting on a number of national roads that are vital access points for the public.

"We are currently focusing on maintenance on national roads because they are vital roads with heavy economic activity," he said.

Maintenance targets street lights that are worn out or damaged, with a completion target of around two to three weeks.

Andi also acknowledged that there is still the problem of theft of electrical cables on street lighting poles which needs to be anticipated.

To overcome this, the Transportation Agency conducted field monitoring through the Rapid Response Unit (URC) team.

"It's true that theft of electrical cables from streetlight poles is a common problem on the road. We monitor this through the URC," he said.

He added that PJU not only functions as street lighting, but also supports security and community economic activities.

"The benefits of street lighting are of course to illuminate an area, reduce crime rates, and support community economic activities," he said.

With the addition and maintenance of thousands of street lighting points, the Bekasi Regency Transportation Agency hopes that street lighting will become more optimal.

These conditions are expected to support public mobility so that it takes place more safely and comfortably.
