PORTALJABAR, DISTRICT. GARUT - Acting Regent of Garut Barnas Adjidin led a morning rally at the Garut Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Office Yard, Thursday (28/3/2024).
In his direction, Barnas stated that Garut Regency is one of the areas with high disaster potential, where during the rainy season in Garut Regency there are often floods and landslides, while in the dry season there are often droughts.
"Garut Regency often experiences floods and landslides during the rainy season and drought during the dry season," he said.
He said that disasters cannot be predicted and often cause loss of life, property, the environment and even psychology.
"Well, of course, to be able to guarantee the implementation of security and the comfort of the community from impacts that will occur, there needs to be prevention, mitigation and so on," he said.
Barnas emphasized the importance of disaster prevention and mitigation by implementing Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) which are continuously evaluated and adapted to field conditions.
"If it's not enough, add it, if it doesn't exist, add it, and so on so that it becomes something that can solve various disaster problems," he said.
Apart from that, Barnas also highlighted the potential for disaster in the southern region of Garut Regency which has a vulnerable contour, this can be seen from the large number of settlements located in areas prone to natural disasters.
"Because there are many settlements on the road, outside the road, but behind them are cliffs. Then in front of high cliffs, that's why if it rains even a little, there will definitely be landslides because there is so much potential for vulnerability in the Garut area," he said.
Barnas emphasized the need to prepare skilled and resilient Human Resources (HR) in disaster management.
"Every section definitely has tough tasks, for example, perhaps the Pusdalops is picketed. There must be someone to picket, if there are reports from the field, take notes and so on," he said.
