PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi will hold a series of Binokasih Carnivals as an integrated cross-regional cultural agenda in several areas of West Java starting in early May 2026.
This activity is an extension of the Sumedang Palace tradition, which has now been promoted as a joint event by the West Java Provincial Government to achieve wider recognition and impact. "We'll start the Binokasih Carnival on May 2nd in Sumedang. The Sumedang Palace tradition is now being integrated with the provincial government to achieve greater recognition," he said in Bandung on Tuesday (April 28, 2026).
He explained that the carnival will move from one region to another, carrying a narrative of Sundanese history and culture. The carnival route begins on May 2 in Sumedang and continues on May 3 in Kawali, Ciamis Regency, known as the center of the Sunda Kawali Kingdom.
Next, the group will head to Kampung Naga in Tasikmalaya as a cultural destination, then move to Cianjur with the final stop at the residency building area which has historical value as the capital of Priangan in the past.
The journey continues to Bogor, taking a route from Batutulis to the Bogor Botanical Gardens. After a one-day break, the carnival will be integrated with the Depok City Anniversary celebrations, with a route highlighting Dutch heritage areas.
From Depok, the group will move to Karawang with the aim of the Syekh Quro Islamic Boarding School, before finally reaching the peak of the event in Cirebon, from Bale Jayadewata to the Kasepuhan area.
KDM stated that this carnival is not merely a ceremonial event, but holds strategic significance for the people of West Java, especially those passing through it. "It has one meaning: it reminds us of Sundanese history, from Kawali to the formation of the Cirebon Sultanate," he said.
Furthermore, this activity is also expected to build collective awareness of environmental protection. "The areas we pass through must be clean. After that, there will definitely be a development program," he said.
KDM also ensured that a number of areas through which the carnival would pass would receive development attention, such as the renovation of the Sumedang Palace, the arrangement of the Kawali area, the improvement of tourism facilities in Kampung Naga, and the strengthening of the carrying capacity of historical sites in Cianjur, Depok, Karawang, and Cirebon.
The impact of this activity is expected to extend beyond the cultural sector to infrastructure and environmental improvements, from roads and sidewalks to residential areas. "The bottom line is that West Java will be clean, not just Bandung City; the entire region must be clean," he emphasized.
Going forward, the Binokasih Carnival will become an annual event of the West Java Provincial Government. "It will be an annual event," he concluded.
