PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi has temporarily halted the construction of an artificial intelligence (AI) data center in the Jatiluhur area of Purwakarta Regency. The reason is that BDX Data Centers, the party building the project, has not yet obtained an environmental impact analysis (AMDAL) and building permit (PBG).
Dedi stated that the AI data center development project should not begin without the AMDAL (Environmental Impact Assessment) and PBG (Economic Impact Assessment) documents. The absence of these two documents could potentially cause problems during the project's construction.
He asked the consultant to immediately submit the necessary requirements so that the AMDAL and PBG for the construction of the AI data center could be issued by the Purwakarta Regency Government.
"The PBG and AMDAL haven't been released yet. Don't proceed with the project yet. Stop construction for now," said KDM, Dedi Mulyadi's nickname, Wednesday (30/9/2026).
KDM also requested that the consultants disclose the project's analysis to the public, particularly regarding potential noise and water use in the Jatiluhur Reservoir. He also requested that the consultation ensure that the AI data center's presence would not disrupt farmers' use of the Jatiluhur Reservoir's water.
Construction of the AI data center, which is located on an 8,000-square-meter plot of land, began on September 22, 2026. The project will have a power capacity of up to 640 Megawatts (MW).
