PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The West Java Provincial Government is fully committed to increasing life expectancy among the community by strengthening integrated primary health services.

This commitment was emphasized by the Deputy Governor of West Java, Erwan Setiawan, when attending the launch of the KITA SEHAT program at the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas Office, Jakarta, Monday (20/7/2026).

According to Deputy Governor Erwan, improving health standards is the main foundation for developing superior human resources (HR) in West Java.

"We are committed to improving the quality of public health services with the support of the KITA SEHAT Program. Strengthening primary health care services is not just about improving service quality, but also a manifestation of health governance reform to make it more effective, equitable, and sustainable," said Erwan.

He assessed that the KITA SEHAT Program is highly relevant to the social and health challenges in West Java, particularly in efforts to accelerate the reduction of stunting and improve toddler nutrition.

This collaborative program is expected to be a catalyst for accelerating health transformation in 27 districts and cities in West Java.

As a demonstration of its commitment at the regional level, the West Java Provincial Government previously launched the Village Doctor Program. This innovation brings medical personnel to remote areas to ensure communities have closer, faster, and higher-quality access to healthcare.

"The success of the health transformation in West Java will have a very significant impact, not only for the people of West Java, but also for achieving national health development targets," he added.

Focus on Preventive and Promotive Efforts

Indonesian Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin emphasized that the simplest indicator of a healthy society is increasing life expectancy.

The government is targeting an increase in life expectancy for Indonesians from 74 years to 76 years in the next five years.

"The government's primary focus is on keeping the public healthy, before treating the sick. Therefore, strengthening primary healthcare services is a priority," Budi emphasized.

People who are able to maintain their health, Budi continued, will avoid various chronic diseases and therefore will not be dependent on hospital services.

He also urged the public to routinely undergo annual health checks as an early detection measure for various disease risk factors.

Budi added that the Australian Government's support through the KITA SEHAT Program is specifically designed to strengthen primary health services so that promotive and preventive efforts can reach the community more widely and evenly.
